Browns Waive DE Marcus Benard, Put NT Phil Taylor On PUP List

Marcus Benard’s misfortune on and off the field continued Monday as the Browns placed him on the waived/injured list.

The defensive lineman, who suffered a dislocated left elbow on Friday and sustained multiple injuries in a motorcycle accident last fall, was one of three players the Browns designated as waived/injured as they reduced their roster to 75 players.

Not surprisingly, the Browns put starting defensive tackle Phil Taylor on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list which means he cannot play for at least the first six weeks of the season. Taylor tore a pectoral muscle lifting weights in May.

Meanwhile, linebackers Chris Gocong (torn Achilles) and Emmanuel Acho (unspecified) are done for the season as they were placed on injured reserve.
