Rams WR Drew Bennett will be the first one to tell you he was a big disappointment in his first season with the team. But like everybody else on the offense, we’re told Bennett genuinely believes new offensive coordinator Al Saunders will bring out the best in him this season as the team’s projected No. 2 receiver, replacing Isaac Bruce. It should help that Bennett has received a completely clean bill of health after being limited by thigh and hamstring injuries the first half of last season.

Cardinals star WR Larry Fitzgerald is being pushed hard by Arizona coaches this offseason to turn his overall game up a notch after signing a hefty new contract. Word is the pressure is on Fitzgerald to fine-tune his route running and do a better job of finishing his runs after his catches.

There's been no action in contract talks with the New Orleans Saints' draft picks, but there's no rush. Whether those later-round deals come down to the wire, they're usually slotted in so tight that they practically work themselves out. First-round draft pick Sedrick Ellis could wind up missing a few days of training camp, which is the norm for a top pick like Ellis, who went seventh overall.

Titans WR Mike Williams has lost nearly 30 pounds this offseason and has regained his swagger in the process. But for his sake, to keep him motivated, the Titans receiver is going to pretend he's stuck in a rut. "I'm not a fool to live by anything I've done in the past few months,'' Williams said. "The coaching staff has seen what I've done, and hopefully they like it. But I'm going to pretend I haven't done anything just to make me work harder. And I definitely plan to keep working.'' Still, the Titans' coaches aren't making any promises. Williams wasn't in the top rotation at receiver in practices, and is far from being ready. "He is like everybody else. He is competing for a job and he has been making a lot of plays,'' Coach Jeff Fisher said. "Conditioning is (still) a factor, his weight is a factor, but he is improving. … I don't think he is ready for three or four series in the preseason yet, but we have time.''
The team has had preliminary discussions with agents for the players, both of whom are set to become restricted free agents after this season. It's harder to determine the market for young guys like Colston and Evans, because they don't have lengthy track records.
Basically, if a Chiefs player gets into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the basis of that election was based on his career with the Chiefs, his number will be retired.” No one however has worn Delaney's No. 37 since his death. Delaney died in 1983 after trying to save three boys who were drowning.

Negotiations on a long-term contract extension for Panthers DE Julius Peppers are ongoing. Sources in Carolina say the team is in wait-and-see mode with its freakishly athletic star pass rusher, who had a career-high 13 sacks in 2006, and talks could heat up if Peppers comes to camp in good condition and shows the ability to shake off last year’s puzzling 2½-sack campaign. Word is, despite his baffling decline last season, the Panthers aren’t expected to make Peppers a significantly lower contract offer than the one that was discussed last offseason.
Stone, who is considered the heir to SS Lawyer Milloy, was arrested on a drunken-driving charge in the early morning of June 15. The Falcons’ organization has been hypersensitive to any charges against employees as it tries to rebuild its image in the wake of the embarrassing Michael Vick saga.

Three weeks before the start of training camp, the Tennessee Titans haven't signed any of their draft picks. But there's no reason to panic just yet. A year ago, the Titans didn't sign a draft pick until July 10, and they had 10 picks to get under contract before camp. Agents for the seven players the Titans selected in the 2008 draft said they expect things to heat up next week. Training camp begins July 25. "Once we get going, it shouldn't take that long. We sort of talked a little bit and said we'd get rolling after the Fourth of July weekend,'' said agent Kenny Zuckerman, who represents tight end Craig Stevens, a third-round pick.
Now a year later, a season wiser and with no wily veteran back on the roster, Lynch figures to be the true every down back the Bills envisioned him to be when they drafted him 12th overall in 2007. "I anticipate him being in on third down a lot more," said Schonert of Lynch. "He's had a year, he understands the protections now and I think this year he'll be an integral part of our third down package." And that should translate into more receptions, which is just what Lynch was hoping for heading into 2008.

ProFootballTalk.com hears from a league source that Brett Favre's agent Bus Cook is privately saying that Favre wants to play for the Carolina Panthers. It's uncertain why Favre is eyeing Carolina. Maybe he thinks that it’s the best place for him to step in as the starter, notwithstanding the presence of Jake Delhomme, and have a chance to win. Or maybe Favre wants to play for a time that’s fairly close to his home in Mississippi — and that will play three division road games in that same general area as well. The only connection Favre has to the organization is that the quarterbacks coach, Mike McCoy, was on the Packers’ practice squad in 1995.

Despite reports that the Green Bay Packers have rebuffed apparent interest on the part of quarterback Brett Favre to resume wearing the yellow helmet with the squished “G”, a league source tells PFT that the team’s attitude regarding Favre is simple. If you want to play, show up. In other words, the team isn’t going to smooch Brett’s butt in an effort to get him to play for them. The suspicion in some circles is that Favre and/or his agent, Bus Cook, are trying to finagle an impasse between the Packers and Favre, so that Favre can play for another team.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette, with help from team sources, has come up with it's own theory of what happened with the whole Brett Favre situation. Citing sources, the the Press-Gazette's Rob Demovsky reports that unlike the previous two years, when Favre told Coach Mike McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson that he was considering retirement, McCarthy maintained regular contact with him, but Thompson hardly communicated with Favre, which upset the 17-year veteran. In March, when Favre told the Packers he was planning to quit, they made little or no effort to talk him out of it. So on March 4, he announced his retirement and two days later held a tearful farewell news conference at Lambeau Field. However, doubt about his decision persisted. Thompson visited Favre at his Hattiesburg, Miss., home in May and, according to sources, Favre would have un-retired at that point had Thompson asked him to come back. But Thompson never broached the subject with him. Then, about two weeks ago, Favre decided he wanted to come out of retirement, so he called the Packers. The team, who had been doing everything possible to move one from the Favre era, including adjusting to offense to fix new starter Aaron Rodgers' needs, said no to Favre. Favre asked for a release, and the team again refused. Depending on how much Favre really wants to come back and how much he pushes the Packers to either move him to the active roster, trade him, or release him, things could get ugly.
Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers speculates that the offer on the table is more in the range of what Lofa Tatupu received from Seattle (six year extension, $40 million of new money, $18 million guaranteed), or that Lance Briggs received from the Bears (six years, $36 million, $13 guaranteed, $21.6 million over the first three years). Both sides have stated that they would like to get a new deal in place before the July 15th deadline in order to not only free up cap space but also keep Dansby in Arizona for the foreseeable future.

The Falcons are giving rusher Jerious Norwood a look as a potential target of choice on punt returns. Adam Jennings is the man listed at the top of the special teams depth chart for this job but he has little value in other capacities and seems to be resting on the bubble for a roster spot. Getting Norwood in that role would allow them to make such a move without missing a beat.
