New York Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff will be out of action until training camp after undergoing leg surgery, according to NFL.com. Westhoff, a bone cancer survivor, had a break in the titanium prosthesis in his leg on May 12 while visiting his son in Indiana. He had surgery six days later and is recuperating at his home in New Jersey. Westhoff had cancer in 1988 and has needed several operations on the leg since that time.

Washington Redskins free agent linebacker Rocky McIntosh visited the New York Jets, according to a league source. He previously worked out for the Minnesota Vikings and visited the Miami Dolphins. McIntosh is a 6-foot-2, 242-pound former University of Miami played drafted in the second round by the Redskins six years ago. McIntosh, 29, recorded 110 tackles two seasons ago and has eight career sacks. The Jets have promoted Jeff Bauer, a former area scout for the team, to director of college scouting. Bauer replaces Joey Clinkscales, who left for a position as the Raiders' director of player personnel earlier this month. A former letterman at Iowa State, Bauer is entering his 12th season with the Jets and has spent 11 years scouting the Midwest. The Jets also hired Kevin Kelly as an area scout.
