Kansas City Chiefs guard Jeff Allen did not participate in Thursday's organized team activities and was seen in a walking boot. Coach Romeo Crennel said Allen has an ankle injury. The presence of the boot usually means a high ankle sprain, and such an injury could mean Allen is finished for the off season practices. The Chiefs are counting on Allen to be their first guard off the bench, and he is probably an eventual successor to starter Ryan Lilja at left guard.

Veteran safety Abe Elam visited the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a league source. Elam recently visited the Tennessee Titans along with fellow free agent safety Gibril Wilson. Elam, 30, started every game last season for the Dallas Cowboys. He recorded 68 tackles and one forced fumble. Elam has previous stints with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and spent his rookie year in Dallas.
The Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agent wide receiver Aaron Weaver. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder transferred to Syracuse after Hofstra eliminated its football program. His career numbers: 141 receptions for 1,504 yards (10.6 avg.) and nine touchdowns. While at Hofstra, he led the team in receptions in 2009 and earned second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors in 2008 after leading the Pride in receptions, punt return and kickoff return average and all purpose yards.

The San Diego Chargers have signed free agent defensive lineman Garrett Brown and rookie free agent corner back Arthur Hobbs. They were among 17 who tried out during rookie orientation this past weekend. Brown spent time with the Chiefs as a defensive tackle in 2010. Hobbs, a Division II All-American, played at Mt. Miguel High School and Grossmont College in San Diego before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
