HBO plans to have an NFL team in place for this year's edition of "Hard Knocks" by June 1, according to Michael Shain of the New York Post but thus far, finding a willing participant to appear in the popular program has been difficult. The Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins reportedly have either declined offers or informed HBO and NFL Films that they're not interested in opening their doors to camera crews. The New York Jets, who had... [Read More]
The Cardinals signed former Raiders unrestricted free-agent LB Quentin Groves on Thursday, the team confirmed. Groves will be entering his fifth season in the NFL, he spent the past two with the Raiders. In 2011, he played in all 16 games, with three starts, and recorded 24 tackles, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. Groves played for the Jaguars from 2008-09, he has missed only one game in the past four seasons and has six passes defensed and two interceptions. To make room on the roster, the Cardinals... Coach Ken Whisenhunt said TE Jeff King tore a quadriceps tendon working out at the team's Tempe practice facility recently. He had surgery to repair it and is on crutches while wearing a brace on his leg. He is expected back for the start of training camp.
The Cardinals official team website reports that running back Beanie Wells said he is “coming along” after his offseason knee surgery. “I’m rehabbing, just trying to get back,” Wells said. He said he doesn’t know his timetable for his return to the field. Wells has been at the facility, and on days where the veterans have gone out as an offense to work on passing routes, Wells has joined them outside even though he can’t take part. His ability to take part in organized team activities and/or minicamp is to be... [Read More]
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt told sports radio talk show host Jim Rome that he doesn’t know who his starting quarterback will be, and he’s as eager as anyone to see one of his quarterbacks establish himself as the starter. “I think the knee-jerk reaction would be to say that it is Kevin’s job to lose,” Whisenhunt said. “But then you have to look at what John Skelton did last year in winning those games when he was in there. So I think you have to give John a lot of credit for winning those games. I certainly... [Read More]
The Cardinals signed offensive tackle Nate Potter, their seventh-round pick, to a four-year contract, the team announced on Thursday. Financial terms were not released. Potter is the fifth of seven draft picks to sign. The team's top two selections, receiver Michael Floyd (first round) and cornerback Jamell Fleming (third round) have not signed. Potter started 42 games in four seasons at Boise State and played in 51 of a possible 53.

In those 10 games, James scored six touchdowns on 46 carries. James was not in the league last season. The Cardinals also signed K/P Ricky Schmitt, who originally signed with Arizona as an undrafted rookie in 2007 before being cut. He has played in one game in his career, in 2009 with the 49ers. Rookies S Eddie Elder and CB Larry Parker... [Read More]
The Arizona Cardinals have reached agreement on a five-year contract with franchised defensive end Calais Campbell, Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reports. A press conference will be held on Friday to officially announce the extension. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the extension will presumably lower the $10.605 million cap number Campbell would have had if the two sides were unable to reach a new deal prior to the July 15 deadline. A 2008 second-round pick out of Miami, the 6-foot-8, 300-pound Campbell has... [Read More]
Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves has acknowledged the club is interested in re-signing linebacker Clark Haggans and defensive end Vonnie Holliday according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. But the Cardinals aren't in any hurry to do so. The agents for those players said this week that nothing is happening and that their clients are both waiting it out. I would expect both to return some time in the next month, however.
Arizona Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves has acknowledged the club is interested in re-signing linebacker Clark Haggans and defensive end Vonnie Holliday. The Cardinals could use depth at outside linebacker and defensive end, but are tight against the cap right now. Haggans, 35, started all 16 games last season but, if he returns, it will be as a backup. Holliday, 36, backed up Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett last season. He played in all 16 games and finished with 16 tackles, 15 of them solo.
A New Orleans Saints source who testified during the NFL's bounty investigation told ESPN's Ed Werder that he believed the league's findings are exaggerated. The NFL claims the program existed for the 2009, 2010, and 2011 seasons, but the source said it was limited to playoff games in the Superdome against Arizona and Minnesota in 2009. Gregg Williams wanted to create a higher level of motivation for his defensive players as they prepared for the postseason. Before a team meeting Williams provided linebacker Jonathan... [Read More]
