Redskins Vote To Allow NFLPA To Decertify

The Washington Redskins players have voted to decertify the player's union, reports Rick Maese of the Washington Post. Redskins defensive end Vonnie Holliday was elected as the team's player rep at the same meeting, replacing middle linebacker London Fletcher in that capacity. "It is not in the background. Guys are very concerned," Holliday said of the players' interest in the labor situation. "For the first time since I've been in the NFL these 13 years, guys are involved in the meetings, they're asking questions, they're paying attention, they want to know what's going on. And they're asking good questions. They want to be informed. Before the union was something you paid your dues to and you received a folder or binder. It was the running joke that your $5,000 or $10,000 got you a notebook. Guys understand the importance right now." By my unofficial count, the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and New York Giants have all voted to authorize the NFLPA to decertify, which would prevent a lockout attempt by the owners in March 2011 and allow the union to sue the NFL under United States anti-trust laws should the owners force a work stoppage.
