Bengals OT Andrew Whitworth Hopes To Play In Regular-Season Opener
Left tackle Andrew Whitworth has missed the first three preseason games but hopes to be ready to play in the Bengals’ regular-season opener Sept. 8 at Chicago.
Whitworth is still recovering from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery.
“It’s frustrating anytime that you can’t be healthy the moment you want to be. But that’s life,” Whitworth said Monday. “In the big scheme of things it’s a small adversity, but it is an adversity. So we’ll just continue doing what we do to get back on the field.”
The eighth-year pro didn’t make the Dallas trip. He watched the broadcast and continued rehabbing, rather than interrupt his regimen to travel and stay at a hotel.
Whitworth said he’s trying to “get back where I can play effectively” while eyeing Game 1. He enters the season with a team-best current streak of 67 starts.
“You hope you can (play in the opener). Always your goal, when you start out with something like this, is to be ready and I’ll do everything I can to be,” Whitworth said. “And if I’m not, I’m not.”
