Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew Says He Feels 'Great' On First Day Of Training Camp
Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew took another step toward putting his Lisfranc foot injury behind him.
The franchise’s career leader in touchdowns was a participant in the Jaguars’ opening practice of training camp Friday morning outside EverBank Field.
Jones-Drew carried eight times and caught a pass while working a limited number of snaps. The 28-year-old Jones-Drew was encouraged by his progress. The injury kept him out of the final 10 games last season, after missing just three games in his previous six seasons combined.
“I felt great today,” Jones-Drew said. “No setbacks. I felt like I had a little burst. On the last play, I caught a ball, made a cut and got north.”
As camp progresses, Jones-Drew is aiming to be able to get back to carrying the ball for a sequence of plays without losing any of his game-changing ability.
“My short-term goal is getting back to where I can carry the ball 20 to 25 times a game,” Jones-Drew said. “Obviously, right now I can do it, but it’s different when you’re getting the ball play after play after play. So that’s the main thing for me. We’re running an up-tempo offense, so getting back into that type of shape. I want to be explosive every time I touch the football.”
