Packers OT Derek Sherrod Making Progress In Rehab
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said star-crossed tackle Derek Sherrod was making progress in his long road back from a broken leg suffered in December 2011.
In his post-draft news conference Saturday, McCarthy said for the first time publicly that Sherrod, the Packers' first-round draft choice in 2011, underwent a second surgery on his right leg.
"I'm really counting on Derek Sherrod to be a factor," the coach said. "He's a different man since the second surgery after the season. So he's making progress.
"I don't have a timeline for you, but he's definitely a lot better than he was during the season. So he's someone we have to get healthy, get him in there and get him ready."
Sherrod, who turned 24 on Tuesday, played in five games as a rookie in 2011 before suffering a broken right tibia and fibula in a game against Kansas City on Dec. 18.
He underwent surgery, was placed on injured reserve and spent the entire 2012 season on the PUP list.
