Bears Part Ways With DT Matt Toeaina
General manager Phil Emery had said the Chicago Bears were going to part ways with defensive tackle Matt Toeaina and the team officially made the move Tuesday at the start of its offseason program, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Toeaina announced the news via his Twitter account, writing: “Thank you to the @chicagobears organization for the opportunity. Bear fans have a lot to be excited about. God Bless! #Beardown and out #75 .”
Toeaina underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after the season and it is possible the Bears have deemed that he failed his physical. Toeaina, 28, is expected to be fully healed soon and should have no problem catching on elsewhere. He played in only three games last season and made two starts after making 22 starts the previous two seasons combined.
Toeaina was signed off the practice squad of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2007 and became a starter in 2010 when he appeared in all 16 games.
