49ers DE Justin Smith Looks To Play Vs Seahawks Despite Injury
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Justin Smith has started 185 consecutive NFL games and it sounds like the plan is for him to play on Sunday night at Seattle after an elbow injury knocked him out of last Sunday’s game at New England.
Smith had an MRI on Monday and after the game he was reluctant to say anything about his situation. But Niners coach Jim Harbaugh, speaking Tuesday on KNBR-AM, indicated Smith should be good to go for the game.
“Everyone affectionately refers to Justin Smith around here as 'The Cowboy.' I expect we'll see The Cowboy,” Harbaugh said, according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News. “Knowing what I know of Justin Smith and the situation, yeah I think the Cowboy will be around. Cowboy will be saddled up, ropin' and ridin'. If it's humanly possible, The Cowboy will be out there, ropin' and ridin'.”
Smith has a team-high 77 quarterback pressures and his presence has helped free up Aldon Smith in many situations as the outside linebacker leads the team with 19 ˝ sacks.
