NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Open To Eliminating Kickoffs
New Giants owner John Mara said last April the NFL has been considering eliminating kickoffs in the future and he might not be too far off.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an article in TIME magazine he discussed with Rich McKay, chair of the NFL competition committee a rule proposed by Bucs coach Greg Schiano that instead of kicking off after a team scores a touchdown or field goal, they would then take the at their own 30 yard line and go for a 4th and 15 where they could try to pickup 15 yards to keep control of the ball or punt.
Goodell points out that high speed collisions that occur during kickoffs are the most dangerous plays in football.
"I don't do things for public relations," Goodell said. "I do things because they're the right thing to do, because I love the game."
