Texans CB Jonathan Joseph Returning; LB Whitney Mercilus To Start Against Titans
Despite a wealth of injuries, the only player who’s guaranteed to miss Sunday’s game at Tennessee is Texans outside linebacker Brooks Reed, who has a serious groin injury.
Reed’s injury opens up a starting spot for first-round pick Whitney Mercilus. It also means Bryan Braman, the team’s best special-teams player, will get the most playing time of his two-year career behind Mercilus and Connor Barwin.
The Texans began preparation Monday for the Titans, and the good news was that cornerback Johnathan Joseph (hamstring) expects to play.
Joseph missed the 34-31 victory over Detroit, and the defense allowed quarterback Matthew Stafford to throw for 441 yards.
“From Thursday until today, I’ve made tremendous progress,” Joseph said. “I think we’re moving in the right direction. If I had to make my call, I think I’ll be ready to go Sunday.”
