Lions Keep CB Chris Greenwood On PUP List, Ending His Season
Chris Greenwood will have to wait until next fall to make his NFL debut.
The Detroit Lions decided to keep Greenwood, a fifth-round pick out of Albion, on the reserve physically unable to perform list today, ending his rookie season before he played a game.
Greenwood underwent abdominal surgery in May to correct a sports hernia and missed all of training camp. The Lions activated him to practice after six weeks, but his 21-day practice window expired today and the team felt he still wasn’t ready to contribute.
Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Monday that “missing training camp was probably the biggest” setback for Greenwood, who’s raw as a football player but at 6-foot-1 has rare athleticism.
“He’s done a good job of preparing and staying involved in the meetings and things like that,” Schwartz said. “But training camp is probably the thing that when it’s all said and done will be the opportunity that he missed the most.”
