Packers OT Derek Sherrod Unlikely To Play This Year
The Green Bay Packers will likely be without 2011 first-round draft pick Derek Sherrod for the entire season. The offensive tackle out of Mississippi State broke his tibia and fibula Dec. 18, 2011, against the Kansas City Chiefs and had surgery that night.
"He's not ready," coach Mike McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "That's really all I can tell you. I know he's frustrated, but we all saw the injury. It was a serious injury, definitely something that we're not going to rush him back."
Sherrod was selected No. 32 overall, the Packers first pick after their Super Bowl XLV win. The Packers were optimistic that Sherrod could be ready for training camp, but that didn't happen. He was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and has until Nov. 5 to return to practice, but the Packers seem ready to place Sherrod on injured reserve.
