Texans OT Wade Smith, RB Ben Tate, WR Lestar Jean Held Out Of Practice
As planned, the Texans again held running back Ben Tate (toe) and receiver Lestar Jean (knee) out of practice Friday, and left guard Wade Smith also stayed on the sideline – “as a precaution,” Kubiak said – after having fluid drained from his knee.
Smith is expected to start against the Jets on Monday night, as is right guard Antoine Caldwell, who “took a normal practice” Friday despite a sprained ankle suffered against the Titans on Sunday.
Jean has recovered rapidly from arthroscopic surgery after the Denver game, but, reading between the lines, it sounds like he won’t be active Monday night.
“He was running his routes today with the trainers and catching balls,” Kubiak said. “I’d say right now he’s a game-time decision, but our thought process all along is that it would be a couple of weeks (before he’d play again). He’s done a lot better than anticipated.”
As for Tate, Kubiak said: “We’ll work him (Saturday) to see where he’s at, to see if he’s available. There’s a lot of time between Saturday and the game time. He could have done some stuff today if we’d wanted him to.”
