Raiders CB Shawntae Spencer Remains In Walking Boot & Crutches
Raiders starting right cornerback Shawntae Spencer remained on crutches and in a walking boot Thursday, four days after spraining his right foot against Miami.
Spencer has not officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh, but when asked if a logical time for his return would be Oct. 14 at Atlanta, after a Week 5 bye, he said: “For me, right now, it is.”
Spencer said doctors have told him he has a sprained foot and have not brought up the dreaded Lisfranc joint, an injury that cost running back Darren McFadden nine games last year and ended wide receiver Jacoby Ford 's season this year.
Spencer battled hamstring and turf toe injuries last season with the 49ers. He said that he initially was “very, very frustrated” after spraining his foot but felt better the next day after talking to trainer Rod Martin and his teammates.
“Injuries are a part of this business or this game,” Spencer said. “It's a violent game. Unfortunately for me, it's two consecutive seasons with these foot injuries and such. It is what it is. I know that's a little clichéd to say, but that's the situation that I'm facing. For me, I'm just looking at getting back as soon as possible, doing whatever I've got to do to get back.”
