Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch Likely To Play Sunday, But Long-Term Durability A Concern
The Seattle Seahawks took a double-edged risk when they re-signed running back Marshawn Lynch this offseason to a four-year, $31 million deal.
Not only did they bank on his ability to hold up physically after five years of punishment from his hard-charging running style, but they hoped he would continue to stay out of trouble after he was suspended for three games in 2009 under the league's personal-conduct policy.
Since signing the contract, Lynch, 26, has been arrested and charged with DUI and missed the final two exhibition games because of back spasms.
The question isn't just his availability for Sunday's regular-season opener at Arizona. Lynch likely will play. But his long-term durability is an issue, as Seattle expects him to remain the biggest driving force in the offense, which has been built around the running game.
