Scan Confirms Cowboys TE Jason Witten Will Not Need Spleen Surgery
Cowboys TE Jason Witten will not need surgery on his injured spleen, according to NFL Network.
Witten has not been ruled out for next Wednesday's season opener against the New York Giants, but a return in Week 2 seems to be a more realistic target. He has not missed a regular-season game since his rookie season in 2003 when he suffered a broken jaw.
According to tweets from NFLN reporter Albert Breer, Witten's condition has not worsened since his spleen was lacerated on a hit from Oakland Raiders MLB Rolando McClain in the preseason opener.
Witten underwent a CT scan Tuesday.
