GM Scott Pioli Not Sure Why Peyton Manning Spurned Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs were interested in signing free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, but were eliminated from contention very early in the process. Manning chose to sign with the AFC West-rival Denver Broncos after Chiefs added former Broncos backup Kyle Orton. In a meeting with the local media on Tuesday, general manager Scott Pioli said he still isn't sure why the team was ruled out of the Manning sweepstakes, reports Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star. "When this whole process started, after he was released, he and I were in communication with one another, as I was with his agent," Pioli said. "He had a plan, and he let me know that. He didnít get into the details. He was up front about what he was doing and some of the visits he wanted to take and that we werenít initially going to be a part of that, and I respected that. "He had a plan and he executed it. He didnít explain to me nor did I ask...I donít think it was my place to do that. Those private conversations with a guy like Peyton, I donít think itís my place to divulge what he and I talked about or communicated about."
