Giants QB Eli Manning Restructures His Contract
As initially reported by Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has reduced his 2012 cap number from $16.35 million to a more salary cap-friendly $9.6 million. Manning was originally due $10.75 million in base salary. To lower his cap number, Manning's base salary has been reduced to $1.75 million for next season, with the remaining $9 million taken as a signing bonus that will be prorated over the four remaining season of his contract. The adjustment creates $6.75 million in space for the cap-strapped Super Bowl Champions, who will likely have to revisit the Manning contract following the 2012 season as Manning's cap number rises to over $20 million in 2013 and 2014 and is just under $20 million in 2015.
