Adam Koets wasn’t healthy enough for the Giants to activate him off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, so they have released the veteran center with an injury settlement instead, an NFL source confirmed. The Giants had until this afternoon to make a decision on their former sixth-round draft pick (2007), but with Koets still recovering from ACL surgery he underwent last year and more recently dealing with back issues, he wasn’t able to return to practice. That left the Giants with only two options: Waiving him or placing him on season-ending injured reserve. Koets, who actually started four games last season in place of the injured Shaun O’Hara, became expendable with the emergence of Jim Cordle and the strong play of Kevin Boothe on the interior of the offensive line. A source familiar with his situation said there’s a possibility he could re-sign with the Giants in the offseason, but he’s a free agent so all options are open.
