Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, commenting today for the first time since Rex Ryan announce he was planning to get more involved in the offense, offered candid responses to questions about a potentially awkward situation. "It's been fine," Schottenheimer said of Ryan. "When Rex walked into the first meeting on Wednesday, the offensive guys jostled in their chair and a couple of the guys were like, "Good morning Rex, how are you doing." But, it's been good. It put us all on notice --myself, players -- that we have to play better. Early on it stung me a little bit. We have a goal everywhere I've ever been. You want to keep the head coach out of your meeting, that's your goal. If you keep the head coach out of your meeting, that means you're doing a good job. When he needs to get involved, there's issues." Schottenheimer was asked if he takes it personally. "I'm good at what I do, I really believe that," he said. "I think Matt Cavanaugh is good at what he does. Rex is going to be another voice to just try to express to Mark, 'Look, here's the situation of the game. Here's where we're at. Take care of the football.' Do we need to do a better job coaching Mark on taking care of the football? Absolutely. Does Mark need to do a better job making better decisions? Absolutely. With Rex getting involved hopefully that will hit home with Mark."
