Keith Bulluck Won't Recover In Time For The Start Of The Season?

The Titans filled a hole at linebacker, where Keith Bulluck is a free agent and is recovering from a torn ACL, by signing well-traveled Will Witherspoon to a three-year, $11 Million deal. Witherspoon should move right in as a starter at outside linebacker. Even if Bulluck were to re-sign with Tennessee, chances are he might not be recovered from his torn ACL in time to start the season.

Titans Coach Jeff Fisher Supports Playoff Overtime Proposal

As co-chairman on the NFL Competition Committee, Titans coach Jeff Fisher not only is in favor of changes to playoff overtime rules, he's one of the key minds behind the proposal that owners are scheduled to vote upon at next week's Annual Meeting. This is Fisher's rationale for the change from "sudden death" to a format that tries to give each team the ball at least once. "What we don't want to have happen in the playoffs is a kickoff return, and then a penalty and a field goal, and have the game be over," Fisher said. "What we're proposing has sudden-death qualities throughout it, even at the beginning. Bottom line is that each team will have an opportunity to possess doesn't guarantee a possession."

Titans Officially Land Eagles Restricted Free Agent DE Jason Babin

The Tennessee Titans have officially landed veteran defensive end Jason Babin after the Philadelphia Eagles declined to match the one-year, $1 million offer sheet executed by the Titans on Wednesday. "We're happy our deal with Jason worked out," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said in a statement. "He's a high-energy player and a good pass rusher, and he fits what we do very well. He has all offseason to come in and work with Coach (Jim) Washburn and become a part of our rotation at defensive end." Babin was an unrestricted free agent, but a right-of-first-refusal clause was written into his previous contract with the Eagles that gave them one week to match another team's offer and retain his rights. The Eagles notified the NFL office they didn't want to match today, and as a result the deal between the Titans and Babin became binding. "I've been trying not to think about it too much because the Eagles had the right to match the offer, and I didn't know what they'd do," Babin said. "I'm ecstatic right now. I can't wait to get in there, start working out with the team and go through the offseason with Coach Washburn and the other players and coaches there. The style of defense the Titans play, as far as what the defensive line does and the way they want their guys to play, it suits my abilities. They get wide, they come off the ball, they rush the passer, and they're aggressive. To me, it's just a natural fit." Added Titans coach Jeff Fisher: "Jason is one of those guys that has a knack of getting to the quarterback. He's not an every-down player, but he'll play a lot of snaps for us. With a real good off-season and working with Coach Washburn, I think he has a real good chance to get to the quarterback, which is important for us."

Patriots Sign Free Agent TE Alge Crumpler

The Patriots have started the process of rebuilding their tight end position. Alge Crumpler's camp has informed the Tennessee Titans that they've come to an agreement with New England, according to a source. Tennessee would've liked to have kept the 32-year-old Crumpler, because -- even with his once-prominent ability in the passing game declining -- he played such a major part in the Titans' vaunted running game, and the 2,000-yard season of Chris Johnson.

The unrestricted free agent is believed to be close to an agreement with the New England Patriots, league sources indicated, though no deal is likely to be consummated until sometime next week.
Titans Assistant Mike Heimerdinger Calls Out TE Jared Cook

As a rookie, Titans tight end Jared Cook dazzled with his post-draft, training camp and preseason work. His height, speed and athleticism made him look to be an impossible matchup as a route runner, but he suffered an ankle sprain and disappeared. Tennessee got nine catches for 74 yards out of him in 14 games, and the word out of team headquarters was his confidence plummeted and he did nothing to force the Titans to get him on the field. “He needs to become much more consistent week to week if he’s going to play for us,” offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said this week. “He has to be more consistent in everything before he can play.”

Titans Free Agent LB Keith Bulluck Will Wait To Visit Teams

Ten-year veteran Keith Bulluck admits to being anxious about finding a new big-dollar contract after watching the first two weeks of free agency. "At the rate the market has been set, I'm not too anxious to go visit anywhere and hear what they have to say," Bulluck said during an interview on ESPN Radio. Bulluck likely would have been one of the top five agents available had he not suffered an ACL injury in the final three weeks of the regular season but now he's rehabbing the knee in hopes of making free agent visits in May or June. "Just sitting back and looking at how everything took place from the first day of free agency, normally in the past years when we have had a salary cap, you see like ten guys going on the first day, you see blockbuster deals," Bulluck said. For now, Bulluck said he remains totally focused on coming back from the injury. "I've told my agent I don't really want to hear anything until May anyway, because I know by May I will be able to show any team anything I need to show them," Bulluck said. "Being a free agent, not signed, and coming off an injury, I think the best thing for my situtation is just to fall back and get better."

Titans To Host Ex-Eagles SS Sean Jones

The Buccaneers could still land Sean Jones but the free agent safety has at least one more visit to make before he makes up his mind on where to play in 2010 as Jones is expected to visit the Tennessee Titans on Monday. Jones had 14 interceptions in his final three seasons with the Browns and recorded 61 tackles, five pass breakups and two interceptions last season with the Eagles. Jones could be a potential veteran backup in the Titans secondary, where the team has few options behind starters Michael Griffin and Chris Hope.

Patriots To Make A Play For Titans RFA TE Bo Scaife?

The New England Patriots might be a good fit for Tennessee Titans restricted free agent tight end Bo Scaife. Scaife, 29, has a first-round restricted tender of $4.9 million because he was franchised last year at $4.46 million There was speculation last year that the Patriots had interest in Scaife back then, and they are much more tight end needy now that Benjamin Watson signed with the Cleveland Browns than they were then.

Titans Remain Interested In Re-Signing C Kevin Mawae As A Backup

When the Titans re-signed offensive guard Eugene Amano last month, it likely closed any door center Kevin Mawae had to return to Tennessee as a starter, because the team is eager to get Leroy Harris into the lineup on the offensive line. That said, the Titans remain interested in having Mawae back as a backup and for his leadership skills. However, Mawae and Bartelstein still believe the veteran is a plenty capable starter and will continue to search for a starting role and weigh that against Mawae returning to Nashville, where he and his family have settled and enjoy living in the community.
