Titans Happy With Current QB Situation

In a conference call with Titans season ticket holders today, Titans GM Ruston Webster didn’t sound like a man who’d be desperate to spring if Manning becomes a free agent next month according to John Glennon of the Tennessean. He was quick to praise his current quarterbacks, veteran Matt Hasselbeck and 2011 first-round pick Jake Locker. “Obviously (Manning) is a great player in the league,” Webster said. “But on the flip side of that, we’re excited about our quarterback situation. “I think Matt brought us through a difficult time, especially once we lost Kenny Britt last year, and I think everyone saw glimpses of Jake Locker. We’re really excited about his future, so you know, obviously Peyton is a great player, but we also feel like we’re in good hands.” “We’re very happy with our quarterback situation – what the future holds with Jake and what Matt has done for us,” Webster said. “With any position we’re always looking to get better, so that will always be something we look at. But … we have a lot of places we need to get better. But we do like our quarterback situation and the three guys we have there.”

Titans Feel They Have A Core Player In LB Colin McCarthy

The Titans believe they may have found a potential core player in Colin McCarthy. They figured they were going to take it slowly in developing their fourth round pick, but McCarthy, a football junkie, was intent on acclimating quickly. He was at the Titans’ facility when the coaches showed up every morning, he practiced hard and tried to absorb as much as he could from veteran Barrett Ruud. When Ruud missed time with injuries, McCarthy stepped in. He started seven games, showed excellent instincts, and made an impact.

Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt has pleaded guilty to a downgraded charge stemming from an arrest in New Jersey. Britt entered the plea in Hoboken Municipal Court to a charge of disturbing the peace and paid a $1,500 fine. Britt faced several charges in the June arrest at a car wash, where police said they suspected Britt of carrying a marijuana cigar. Police claimed Britt crushed the cigar and disposed of it. It was not found. The remaining charges were dismissed Tuesday.

Titans Fans Start Website Hoping To Sway Colts QB Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning remains on the Indianapolis Colts' roster, and the Tennessee Titans have three quarterbacks already. Still, fans of the Titans who also follow the NFL's only four-time MVP are starting an ad campaign in Indianapolis hoping to convince Manning to return to Tennessee. "It's kind of evident to the sports world they're going to let Peyton go -- they're not going to pay him the money that he's due and he's going to be a free agent," Todd Mayo said Monday. "All the sports talk guys are saying he could go to Arizona and Washington and every place but Tennessee. We've got a young quarterback here at the Titans. "If you could upgrade your team with the caliber of Peyton, why would you not?" Mayo said he and his brother, Griffin, spent the weekend designing the website ComeHomePeyton.com and recorded a couple parody songs, including one to the Eminem hit "Lose Yourself." The site went live Monday and had generated $700 in donations by midday. A 30-second commercial is planned for an Indianapolis radio station during the Super Bowl. "Call it fan-vertising if you will, but kind of a concept to put the power in the fans' hands and let Peyton know how much he's wanted in the state of Tennessee for the Titans," Mayo said. "Of course, he played at Tennessee. I'm from Memphis, went to school at Tennessee in Knoxville and live in Nashville ... I love Tennessee, and it's kind of one of those things you would like to affect positive change from the power of fans coming together."

The Tennessee Titans announced that Nate Kaczor has been added to Mike Munchak's coaching staff as the assistant offensive line coach. Kaczor replaces Art Valero, whose contract was not renewed. "I really like Nate’s energy and his background," Munchak said. "He has experience coaching in the NFL, but also brings a ton of experience as an offensive coordinator on the collegiate level and has coached a variety of positions through the years. "As it relates to Art (Valero), we didn’t renew his contract because he wanted the opportunity to coach a position group and we couldn’t offer him that, so we both agreed to move forward separately." After 17 seasons coaching at the college level at Utah State, Nebraska-Kearney, Idaho and Louisiana-Monroe, Kaczor has spent the last four seasons as the Jacksonville Jaguars assistant special teams coach.

"I am going to be the defensive coordinator for the Titans and I am glad to be working for the Titans," Gray told the newspaper. "That's what I'm going to be doing." Gray was among several candidates who interviewed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head-coaching position, with NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reporting Wednesday that Mike Sherman had been called back for a second meeting with the team. Gray also was a candidate for the Indianapolis Colts' coaching vacancy, which ultimately went to Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano.

Titans VP Of Player Personnel Lake Dawson Likely To Remain In Tennessee

Lake Dawson was recently promoted to vice president of player personnel in the Tennessee Titans front office shakeup last week. But that didn't completely stop the thought that the St. Louis Rams still had interest in Dawson for their vacant general manager's role. But now, according to TitanInsider.com, it appears that Dawson is no longer in the Rams' mix and will have plenty on his place to keep him busy in Tennessee. Dawson not only will be over the scouting department as VP of player personnel, but also will maintain the previous responsibilities he had in heading up the pro personnel department.

Titans Add Keith Millard As Defensive Assistant

The Tennessee Titans announced the hiring of Keith Millard as a defensive assistant who will specialize in improving the team's pass rush. A 1984 first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings, Millard was a two-time Pro Bowler and NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1989) in a career that also included stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, and Philadelphia Eagles. Millard has spent the last eight seasons coaching defensive lines with the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "We are bringing Keith in to help all of our players with their pass rush skills, whether that is the d-line, Akeem Ayers and the linebackers or even the defensive backs," said Titans head coach Mike Munchak. "His position is actually one that I considered for the staff when I took over last year, but the timing didn’t allow for it. Keith brings a great deal of energy and passion in addition to a great demeanor. "Unfortunately, I can personally attest to his ability as a player, but he also has the rare ability to teach the game within the game and the art of the pass rush."

Titans To Offer DE/DT Jason Jones Only A One-Year Deal?

Titans DT-turned-DE Jason Jones was a good soldier when Tennessee informed him he was being moved outside before the season, even if Jones might have felt he was a better fit inside. Now, he is an unrestricted free agent whose value likely diminished after he struggled to learn a new position. With the Titans unlikely to offer more than a one-year deal, it will be interesting to see if Jones receives more desirable offers elsewhere, perhaps from teams willing to slide him back inside.

The Titans shuffled their front office earlier this week, but cornerback Cortland Finnegan isn’t sure the moves will change anything. He remains pessimistic about his chances of returning to the team in 2012. Mike Reinfeldt was promoted from general manager to senior executive vice president, Ruston Webster was promoted to GM and Lake Dawson replaced Webster as vice president of player personnel. Finnegan, who said he hasn’t heard from the Titans since the end of the season, suspects all three men think along the same lines. “I hope it changes things, but I don’t know,” Finnegan said. “All those guys work closely together. You see all of them — Lake, Ruston and Mike — together all the time. So I don’t know that a lot will change. Mike Reinfeldt will still be on top of everything. I’m discouraged nothing has happened, but I am still in a holding pattern.”

The ink has barley dried on Jeff Fisher's new contract with the St. Louis Rams. Since signing the deal on Tuesday, Fisher has been in the process of filling out his coaching staff, those efforts hit a road block on Thursday when the Titans, his former team, refused permission for the Rams to interview their strength and conditioning coach, Steve Watterson, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. Watterson has been with the Titans since they were the Oilers, for 26 years, much of that time overlapping with Fisher's time there. After the rash of injuries the Rams suffered this season, hiring a new strength and conditioning coach makes for an interesting juxtaposition. Obviously, Fisher knows the guy and believes in his approach.

Titans Promote Executives Mike Reinfeldt, Ruston Webster, Lake Dawson

The Tennessee Titans announced that General Manager Mike Reinfeldt, Vice President of Player Personnel Ruston Webster and Vice President of Football Operations Lake Dawson have been promoted. Reinfeldt will now be the team's Senior Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer and oversee all football and non-football operations. Webster is now the Executive Vice President/General Manager and will control all football-related operations. Dawson replaces Webster as the VP of Player Personnel. "Mike has done a nice job for us as our general manager, but I believe we need someone in place who oversees the entire franchise there in Nashville," Titans owner Bud Adams said. "Mike is uniquely qualified for that position with his previous experience. Our VP’s have done an outstanding job over the past couple of years managing their departments, but this will streamline things to have someone on site to direct the entire organization and who will execute things the way I want them done. "With this shuffle, we really have the best of both worlds – as you might remember our final two candidates when we were filling the general manager position five years ago were Mike (Reinfeldt) and Ruston Webster. We now have both of them working for us and Ruston will take over the General Manager role."

Fisher will also have his share of say in personnel matters, and in doing so might look back toward Tennessee as the Rams ready to fill the general manager's opening. Titans vice president of football operations Lake Dawson interviewed last week for the GM job in St. Louis, and according to TitanInsider.com, Dawson appears to be a strong candidate to join Fisher in part because of their ties of working together for four seasons in Tennessee.
