The St. Louis Rams are one of four NFL teams that have yet to sign any of their rookies. Expect that to change soon. General manager Les Snead told CBS Sports that the team expects to start talks after the holiday weekend and have the deals all done when minicamp wraps up in the middle of June. Michael Brockers, the Rams 1st-round pick, should get a four-year worth close to $10 million.

Saints DC Steve Spagnuolo Installing More Zone Defense

The all-out blitzing the Saints unleashed during recent seasons appears to be a thing of the past under new defensive co-ordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Spagnuolo, the former head coach of the St. Louis Rams, likes a good blitz, but he is more cautious and likes to play more zone defense. "You have to be multiple, in my opinion," he said. "I think that offenses have gotten so far advanced, and quarterbacks have gotten so intelligent about getting their side of the ball in and out of things and to the best play, that on defense you have to be a step ahead of that. There will be an emphasis on winning up front first both in run and pass. I am a firm believer that you win up front." "We talked about that this morning," Saints interim head coach/linebackers coach Joe Vitt said Thursday. "Defensively, we gave up more big plays — runs of 10 yards or more or pass plays of 20 yards or more — last year than we ever have at 99. We have to get that number down to about 75."

Soreness In Rams QB Sam Bradford's Ankle Still Lingers

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is a man coming off of a serious ankle injury and trying to learn his third NFL offense in three seasons according to Kathleen Nelson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. After five days of OTAs, head football coach Jeff Fisher estimated that he had installed approximately 70 percent of the offense, helping Bradford is the fact that the offense is similar to the one Pat Shurmur ran during Bradford's rookie year and the presence of a quarterbacks coach. Last year's offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels preferred to serve as his own quarterback coach but Bradford really appreciates the presence of coach Frank Cignetti, most recently the offensive coordinator at Rutgers. "Coach Cig has been awesome," Bradford said. "He really knows what he's doing when it comes to coaching quarterbacks. He's all over fundamentals. Every day he points something out on tape, whether it be my drop, my arm angle, something like that. Whereas last year, not having that, I feel like I probably missed some things and probably got a little lazy. Having him here keeps me very sharp with all the little things, which is very nice." The one carryover from last year that Bradford hopes to jettison for good is the residue from a badly sprained ankle, originally suffered Oct. 16 against Green Bay, he missed six games and finished rehab in March, but soreness lingers. He's practicing fully in OTAs, but it's got to be concerning that the ankle woes have lasted so long. Bradford re-injured the ankle on several occasions last season, and he's not fully over the injury more than seven months later. "It's getting there," Bradford insisted. "It seems to feel better every week. There's less soreness, more things I can do. I think it's definitely on the right track."

The philosophy that Rams General Manager Les Snead and Head Coach Jeff Fisher started with in February is that "We're not one player away." There was no way of knowing if it would take 10 new players, or 20, or 30 to get the franchise out of its massive rut. But it was going to take more than one. "The goal was, 'Let's get multiple (draft) picks so we can get multiple players to go with our free-agent crop," Snead told Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "And I think we accomplished that." "From the time we got here, progress has been made," Snead said. "There's no doubt about that. So we're happy where we're at. We don't want to wait till 2014 (to turn it around). But what we do want to do is be improving, be competing, be thriving — where people can feel the momentum. And then you keep adding parts. Keep jelling as a team."

Rams Claim TE Brody Eldridge Off Waivers

The Rams acquired former Oklahoma TE Brody Eldridge, a day after the Colts released him. Eldridge was an 5th round pick by the Colts in 2010. Eldridge isn't a dynamic receiver, he's an old school blocking tight end. It's most likely a long shot for Eldridge to make the final 53, but he will have his chance. If Eldridge makes the final 53, he will most likely fill the role that Billy Bajema left as the 3rd tight end, and will most likely be in the game as a blocker, or as a last option to catch a pass.

The 1967 Oakland Raiders had 73 sacks but were an AFL team and sacks weren't an official statistical category. Quinn had five sacks as a rookie last year. Chris Long led the team with 13.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Wednesday that wide receiver Danario Alexander didn't participate in an OTA practice because of a sore hamstring. There's no timetable on when he'll return to work. Alexander says he's focused on playing 16 games and welcomes the competition the team has added at receiver. "I'm looking forward to a lot of competition," said the 6-foot-5, 217-pound Alexander. "We're in the heat of the battle and we just have to separate ourselves. It keeps you driving and keeps you motivated. That's part of the NFL. You're always going to have new competition coming in."

The Rams counterproposal to the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission became public on Monday, the proposed renovation includes a sliding roof, tearing down the eastern part of the building and installing an additional 6,000 seats in order to make the facility first tier. According to Matthew Hathaway of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams' proposal would cost more than $700 million, compared to the CVC's $124 million proposal, said Jeff Rainford, Mayor Francis Slay's chief of staff and the construction involved would cost some big downtown conventions, bleeding an additional $500 million from the local economy, he said. Marc Ganis, a sports consultant who helped negotiate the lease in the 1990s for the Rams, said the plan unveiled Monday comes as close as possible to satisfying the first-tier language without calling for a new facility. "This appears to be a logical, feasible plan that's meant to get a positive result," said Ganis, president of the Chicago-based SportsCorp, a consulting firm. "This isn't a pie-in-the-sky plan designed to get to an impasse ... It looks to me like a sincere effort to get a deal done." Ganis, who said he has no current business relationship with the Rams or the CVC, said the team's plan is well-suited to the Dome's location. It's not a cookie-cutter plan, he said, and it would create "an iconic facility" for far less than the cost of a new one. "A new stadium is going to cost well over $1 billion," he said. "This looks like it would be roughly half of what a new stadium would cost." "My guess is Mr. Kroenke told his people to design a top-tier stadium," Rainford said. "But you can't look at this and draw the conclusion that he's flipping the bird to St. Louis and he is moving to Los Angeles."

Rams coach Jeff Fisher has confirmed that the team will not operate with an defensive coordinator in 2012. Gregg Williams would have headed the defense, but he has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL for his role in the New Orleans bounty scandal. "It's really no different than it was when this thing went down," Fisher said. "It's going to be a collective, collaborative effort."

In an effort to beef up competition for the backup cornerback position, the New Orleans Saints have added Marquis Johnson to roster. Johnson is a former 2010 seventh-round pick of the St. Louis Rams out of Alabama. He is familiar with Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who drafted Johnson in St. Louis, and will likely compete with second-year player Johnny Patrick and fifth-round draft pick Corey White for the backup cornerback spots behind starters Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson.

Rams Proposal Includes Retractable Roof For Edward Jones Dome

Details of the St. Louis Rams proposal for the Edward Jones Dome were revealed by Fox 2 in St. Louis on Wednesday night. According to the report, first leaked via Twitter, the team's proposal includes a retractable roof. Experts cited in the Fox 2 report say that adding a retractable roof to the Dome would require major structural changes, along with a hefty price tag. Estimates predict the potential cost anywhere from $200 to $300 million, just for the roof and retrofitting the Dome. Needless to say, it figures to carry a higher price tag than the $124 million proposal pitched by the Convention and Visitors Commission.

Gibson spent the past three years with the St. Louis Rams after barely earning any playing time with the Carolina Panthers in his first four years in the NFL. Last year was his most productive season, as the 6'3", 312 lbs. tackle notched the first three sacks of his career. He was originally an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers, where he played under current Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano in college.

Rams Plan To Check In On Rookie CB Janoris Jenkins Every Day

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins has first round talent which is indisputable but his off-field issues kept him from being a first-round pick. The St. Louis Rams took a chance on Jenkins in the second-round of the NFL Draft on Friday, Rams General Manager Les Snead told Peter King of SI.com that the luxury of having extra second round picks made it easier to take a chance on Jenkins. "But without all the extra picks, obviously, it would have been tougher to take a chance on Janoris,'' Snead said. The Rams have put in some safeguards and checks for Jenkins. Snead, or someone with the organization, will call him or talk to him every day about his life, which is a mess. He's had four children with three different women, and he'll have to use much of his first contract to straighten out child support and related family care things. Jenkins knows he'll be monitored by the man who holds the cornerback's life in his hands. "I look the kid in the eye and said, 'It's you and me,' '' Snead said.
