Former Panthers linebacker Landon Johnson, who was released earlier this month, is scheduled to fly to Detroit tonight for meetings with Lions team officials tomorrow, according to his agent, Andy Simms. Simms described it as "a feeler visit" and said Johnson is trying to get a sense of the market for him, and that he also has received interest from other teams. Johnson was a backup linebacker and special teams player for the Panthers who was thrust into a starting role when Thomas Davis suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Vikings RB Albert Young Ready To Fill Chester Taylor's Role

Running Back Albert Young said he tried to ignore all the media attention focused on the Vikings' pursuit of LaDainian Tomlinson last week, but he kept getting reminders on his Twitter and Facebook accounts. Tomlinson's decision would directly affect Young, the team's backup to star running back Adrian Peterson. "I really didn't have a feeling either way about it," Young said. "That's something that's out of my control. The fact is, he's not there. Who knows, they might bring in somebody else. They might draft somebody. I just look at it as a void that's there and somebody needs to take it, and I'm working hard to do that." Vikings coach Brad Childress said Young should not be overlooked in the equation. "Probably not enough has been said about Albert Young," Childress said on KFAN Radio last week. "Albert Young is a guy that has developed here tremendously in the last two years. As a matter of fact, Brett Favre and I had a long conversation about him when we were down south, and he believes he's got a chance to be a good back in this league."

Lions QB Matthew Stafford spoke with Detroit reporters Tuesday on a number of topics, including his recovery from knee and shoulder injuries that forced him to miss four games and parts of another during his rookie season. Stafford had minor knee surgery following the season, according to the Detroit Free Press, and he isn’t running with teammates during the Lions’ offseason conditioning program this week. As for the late-season left shoulder injury sustained during an improbable comeback victory over the Browns, Stafford says he’s not limited in his throwing. “The shoulder feels good,” Stafford said. “The knee’s coming along. I threw today full speed, felt pretty good. Obviously, it’s just going to keep getting better. I’m excited to be back and ready to go.”

Favre told Tomlinson that he had "no clue" whether he would return to the Vikings for what would be his 20th season in the league. Having spent the 2008 season with the New York Jets, Favre simply told Tomlinson that both franchises were led by good people who could help make the running back successful, according to the source.

While the Minnesota Vikings encouraged Brett Favre to recruit free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson, a team source said that the quarterback limited his role to texting Tomlinson because of lingering uncertainty about his own NFL future. Favre told Tomlinson that he had "no clue" whether he would return to the Vikings for what would be his 20th season in the league. Having spent the 2008 season with the New York Jets, Favre simply told Tomlinson that both franchises were led by good people who could help make the running back successful, according to the source.

Hours after a report surfaced that Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner is facing DUI charges, his agency, Athletes First, issued a strong denial any charges have been filed. "Spencer Havner suffered only minor injuries this weekend in an accident, including a broken scapula, but he should be fully recovered in short order," Mark Humenik, Athletes First's general counsel, said in a statement. "Despite unfounded media reports to the contrary, he has not been charged criminally with driving under the influence of alcohol or any other substance." Asked if charges still are being contemplated or if Havner is out of the hospital, the agency declined further comment.
