Ex-NFL QB Jeff Garcia Wants To Play For Eagles Again

At age 42, Jeff Garcia says he's not done playing quarterback. After spending 2006 and 2009 with the Philadelphia Eagles, he's lobbying the organization for another chance to make the roster. "Philly's the team my wife will let me go back and play for," Garcia told WIP-FM, via Philly.com. "She's the only one that will approve the move, so to speak. Our experience there in Philadelphia in 2006 was just, for me as a player, one of the best experiences that I've had." Garcia is dreaming in public here. The Eagles don't need another quarterback behind Michael Vick. Reserves Mike Kafka, Trent Edwards and rookie Nick Foles are in the mix, and word is Kafka is a sure bet to win the backup job.

Lions Interested In Trading For Cowboys CB Mike Jenkins?

wboys cbAlthough the Detroit Lions seem relatively happy with their cornerback situation, that doesn't mean that they won't explore upgrading the talent at the position. After drafting three cornerbacks, you might expect them to stand pat, but ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins reports that the Lions are one of the teams interested in potentially trading for Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins. The problem for the Lions is that the Cowboys don't seem to be interested in trading Jenkins right now. After signing Brandon Carr and selecting Morris Claiborne in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, speculation immediately began that Jenkins would be dealt, but so far, the Cowboys have decided to keep him. ESPN's John Clayton reported on SportsCenter on Saturday that he expects the Lions to be a team with interest in making a deal "down the line," assuming the Cowboys change their mind and decide to trade him.

The Indianapolis Colts are making a major play for disgruntled Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins, a source with knowledge of the talks confirmed. In the final year of his contract, Jenkins has stayed home from OTAs with hopes of being traded. The Cowboys have publicly said they viewed Jenkins as a part of their future, and coach Jason Garrett said Thursday "We're not gonna trade him." Yet privately, they have been entertaining offers. Anthony Spencer, one of Jenkins' Cowboy teammates, said he understands that a move to trade the cornerback is a business decision. "If anyone understands, I understand, but at the same time, you want a guy like that to be around the team and what not," Spencer said on Wednesday of the possible move. "But it's always a decision. I support him. He's my teammate. Whatever decision he makes."

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks Undergoes Successful Foot Surgery

Hakeem Nicks yesterday underwent successful surgery on his right foot, as a screw was inserted to hasten the healing process in the fifth metatarsal bone he fractured while running a route on Thursday during an OTA drill. The surgery was performed in Charlotte, N.C, by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson. The Giants have set a 12-week timetable for Nicks’ return. Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted “One person familiar with the Nicks fractured foot said it was more like a ‘4 to 6 week’ injury.’’ Nicks’ agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Post, “we will know more next week,’’ regarding the earliest Nicks can be expected to return.

Redskins WR Santana Moss Says Robert Griffin III Still Has A Lot To Learn At QB

When the Redskins drafted Robert Griffin III, there is a lot of hope and promise with the young quarterback. Moss believes RGIII has the ability to turn the franchise around, but realizes the team must do their part to make it happen. "It's one of those situations where he is a young guy and at the end of the day regardless how much his skill level is better than other young guys like himself he still has to learn a lot day by day," Moss recently said in an interview with WTEM-AM, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "So that's one thing I want everyone to understand that he comes here with the big hope of turning everything around. We are all hoping that. We all want that, but I don’t want that pressure on him as if he has to be the one. Together we have to be a team around him to help him bring us to where we have to be at. I feel like everyday we are out there all we can do is get better together and he can get better as a whole just knowing what this offense is going to bring to him.”

Giants Coach Tom Coughlin Realistic About WR Hakeem Nicks' Return

Tom Coughlin is already realistic about what to expect with wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who will have surgery to repair a broken foot today. The New York Giants announced Thursday Nicks will be sidelined 12 weeks as he rehabilitates from the injury, meaning it’s almost certain he will not be ready when training camp begins in two months. Coughlin isn’t thinking start of camp, though, he is thinking start of the regular season. The defending Super Bowl champions kick off the new season Sept. 5 when they host the Dallas Cowboys. “Well, it's probably going to be close. Hopefully, we will,” Coughlin said on NFL Network, via Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger. “He feels very confident about it. The doctors have expressed it as something they feel will heal very, very well. Obviously, we've got to get about the business of healing right away. “If it takes the full three months, you're going to be sitting right up next to that opening game. We certainly hope that Hakeem is correct in saying that he heals fast.” The upside, if there is one, is Coughlin said doctors are confident Nicks will return fully healed and it will not be a situation where he’s at risk of suffering the same injury again. That’s been known to happen with pesky foot injuries.

The NFL Players Association has filed a federal lawsuit, alleging that the NFL and its owners conspired in collusion to establish a "secret $123 million salary cap" in 2010, which under the previous labor agreement was designated as an uncapped year of spending. the NFLPA claims that it learned on or about March 12, 2012 that four teams -- the Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints -- did not abide by the NFL's secret rules that effectively advised teams to operate in 2010 under a $123 million salary cap. An NFLPA source said that the union was "strong-armed" into the agreement because the salary cap would have been set at a league-wide $113 million per team instead of $120 million.

Eagles' Former Top Pick DE Brandon Graham Labels Self 'Bust' As Motivation

Two years later after being drafted 13th overall by the Eagles, defensive end Brandon Graham is most familiar with the flip side of being a top selection: pressure, scrutiny, high expectations and harsh criticism for falling short. Those realities all tail him as he enters a critical third season in the NFL, still trying to make his mark with the Eagles. "I haven't [done] nothing, really," Graham said on Tuesday according to Jonathan Tamari of the Philadelphia Inquirer, summing up what many fans think of him. He vows to use that perception as motivation to return this season in better shape. "Right now, I'm a bust, so I'm going to deal with that. I'm a bust, and I'm going to keep being a bust. Even when I make plays, I'm going to still act like I'm a bust. You know what I'm saying?" After two seasons with just three sacks and six starts, one torn anterior cruciate ligament and one microfracture knee surgery, Graham has endured an avalanche of criticism and unflattering comparisons to Jason Pierre-Paul, the defensive end drafted by the Giants two picks after Graham. "It hasn't done nothing but make me grow and help me get stronger," Graham said. He played in just three games in 2011. Twice he dressed and was left to sit on the bench. "Going through that whole thing last year, not playing, I just grew as a person, that was number one. I've moved on from it. Now it's time for me to defend myself." "Its been a whole year since I've been out there [as] confident as I am today and all I can do is just take it one day at a time, one practice at a time, and that's what I'm doing. Today went pretty well," Graham said after practice. With Jason Babin skipping the start of the voluntary sessions, Graham got some snaps with the first team defense. "I felt real good. . . . Now I don't really think about my knee as much as I did coming back, because that's what I was doing a lot, I was favoring it." Now, he said, "I just go as hard as I can."

Former Washington Redskins offensive tackle Sean Locklear said he doesn't know — and believes the coaching staff is still undecided — on whether he'll be on the right or left side for the New York Giants. “Right now, I'm going to be going both sides,” he said, adding that he's doing well learning the new terminology. It helps that Locklear has nine years of NFL experience to rely on. He was originally selected in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of North Carolina State by the Seattle Seahawks, the 6-foot-4, 310-pound Locklear has started 82 of his 105 games, mostly at right tackle, during his eight-year NFL career
