Ex-NFL QB Jeff Garcia Wants To Play For Eagles Again

At age 42, Jeff Garcia says he's not done playing quarterback. After spending 2006 and 2009 with the Philadelphia Eagles, he's lobbying the organization for another chance to make the roster. "Philly's the team my wife will let me go back and play for," Garcia told WIP-FM, via Philly.com. "She's the only one that will approve the move, so to speak. Our experience there in Philadelphia in 2006 was just, for me as a player, one of the best experiences that I've had." Garcia is dreaming in public here. The Eagles don't need another quarterback behind Michael Vick. Reserves Mike Kafka, Trent Edwards and rookie Nick Foles are in the mix, and word is Kafka is a sure bet to win the backup job.

Eagles' Former Top Pick DE Brandon Graham Labels Self 'Bust' As Motivation

Two years later after being drafted 13th overall by the Eagles, defensive end Brandon Graham is most familiar with the flip side of being a top selection: pressure, scrutiny, high expectations and harsh criticism for falling short. Those realities all tail him as he enters a critical third season in the NFL, still trying to make his mark with the Eagles. "I haven't [done] nothing, really," Graham said on Tuesday according to Jonathan Tamari of the Philadelphia Inquirer, summing up what many fans think of him. He vows to use that perception as motivation to return this season in better shape. "Right now, I'm a bust, so I'm going to deal with that. I'm a bust, and I'm going to keep being a bust. Even when I make plays, I'm going to still act like I'm a bust. You know what I'm saying?" After two seasons with just three sacks and six starts, one torn anterior cruciate ligament and one microfracture knee surgery, Graham has endured an avalanche of criticism and unflattering comparisons to Jason Pierre-Paul, the defensive end drafted by the Giants two picks after Graham. "It hasn't done nothing but make me grow and help me get stronger," Graham said. He played in just three games in 2011. Twice he dressed and was left to sit on the bench. "Going through that whole thing last year, not playing, I just grew as a person, that was number one. I've moved on from it. Now it's time for me to defend myself." "Its been a whole year since I've been out there [as] confident as I am today and all I can do is just take it one day at a time, one practice at a time, and that's what I'm doing. Today went pretty well," Graham said after practice. With Jason Babin skipping the start of the voluntary sessions, Graham got some snaps with the first team defense. "I felt real good. . . . Now I don't really think about my knee as much as I did coming back, because that's what I was doing a lot, I was favoring it." Now, he said, "I just go as hard as I can."

Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha believes he could have worked with Asante Samuel on excelling as a part of the Philadelphia defense. Samuel was traded to the Falcons last month for a late-round draft pick. Asomugha signed with the Eagles before the 2011 season. The pair only played one season together. "I thought it could have worked, and I still think it could've worked," Asomugha said. "Everybody keeps saying that, you know, 'No, it can't work, you three, blah blah blah. ' I still thought it could've worked, even coming into this season. Asante and I would talk about it through the offseason, like, we can fix this. ... Now we've got another year under our belt; now we've got time; and then he's gone. So now it's like you don't get that chance to put it back out there. But, you know, it's whatever, and he's happy with where he is."

Giants DE Osi Umenyiora Apologizes For Mothers Day Tweet To Eagles RB LeSean McCoy

Osi Umenyiora said an online article that condemned him as sexist for wishing Eagles running back LeSean McCoy a Happy Mothers Day was "absolutely correct," as he issued an apology Thursday per the New York Post. ESPNChicago anchor Sarah Spain lashed out at the Giants defensive end in an article on the network's site dedicated to women's sports, ESPNW, saying, "Umenyiora still thinks being compared to a woman is the ultimate insult." Umenyiora took a shot at McCoy on Sunday, telling him to "enjoy your special day," as he reignited a long-standing feud with the Philadelphia star. McCoy welcomed the insult, saying, "Lol let the beef begin," while former Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, now with the 49ers, chimed in, too, saying, "Omg hahaha." But Spain said in a commentary piece Wednesday that those laughing at Umenyiora's tweet reinforced that "the sports world is still an old boys' club." She wrote, "To Umenyiora, saying that a man is a 'woman' is equivalent to calling him a 'wuss,' a 'weakling' or a 'crybaby.' Well if that's what he means, he should use those words. The word 'woman' should not be interchangeable with these insults." Umenyiora responded, "@SarahSpain is absolutely correct in her article. I wasnt thinking about it from that perspective. I apologize to any woman offended." He also fought Spain's corner when one of his followers criticized the reporter, saying, "you can't joke about anything in 2012 .. There's a sour person about every subject." Umenyiora replied, "But you have to look at things from other people's perspective sometimes. A joke to me and you might actually offend others." Spain was delighted with the NFL star's response, offering him "big props" and adding, "So fantastic of you to actually read the piece and really think about the issue."

Ravens LB Terrell Suggs, Eagles OT Jason Peters Could Lose Salary For Injuries

more bad news for Eagles left tackle Jason Peters and Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, not only did both players tear their Achilles' tendons, they could lose money for it. ESPN reports that both players are facing a financial reduction of some sort because of how they were injured. It is up to the discretion of the Ravens and Eagles whether they want to withhold pay from Suggs or Peters because they suffered a "non-football injury." Even though the players were training for football, they were not at the team facility or working under the team's discretion. Both players are subject to being played on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

During a Monday appearance on NFL Network's "Total Access," Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said he would recommend free agent Donovan McNabb to another head coach looking for a veteran quarterback. "I tell them to take him," Reid said. "I still think he can play. I think the world of him, and we had some great years together here. I'm always wishing him the best and a fan of his. I got a chance to see him at Brian Dawkins' retirement (ceremony). He looks good. He looks physically good. He looks like he could go out and play tomorrow. I would highly recommend (him)."

Eagles OT Jason Peters Tore His Achilles Tendon Again, Needed Second Surgery

Less than two months ago, the Eagles lost one of their most important players when left tackle Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon while working out in Texas. While he might have held out hope for returning at some point in 2012 -- and considering he was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 1 tackle in the game last year, the team also was crossing its fingers -- that possibility slammed shut when Peters re-tore the tendon recently. That's the word from CSN Philly, which is reporting that the device he was using to move around, called a Round-A-Bout, malfunctioned. Peters apparently fell to the kitchen floor face-first after the contraption broke, and he injured his surgically-repaired tendon. He needed a second surgery to repair the damage, and the website writes that his recovery has been pushed back three weeks, CSN also writes that Peters plans to sue the manufacturer.

Eagles Coach Andy Reid Says RB LeSean McCoy's Contract Talks Moving Forward

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday contract talks with LeSean McCoy are moving forward and said he’s not concerned that the two sides haven’t agreed yet on a contract extension according to Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com. McCoy is the 56th-highest-paid running back in the NFL with an average annual salary of $984,100 per year on his original four-year rookie deal, signed after the Eagles drafted him in the second round in 2009. But the Eagles concede that he’s grossly underpaid after his breakout 2011 Pro Bowl season, in which he led the NFL with 20 touchdowns, 102 first downs and 48 rushes of 10 or more yards and netted 1,309 rushing yards, 48 receptions and 1,624 total yards in 15 games. Reid, in an interview on 97.5 The Fanatic that was transcribed by sportsradiointerviews.com, said he’s confident ongoing talks will soon result in a long-term contract for McCoy. “I can’t share [details] with everybody, but I will tell you it is heading in the right direction,” Reid said. “That’s all I can tell you.” “He knows we appreciate him and we are working through those negotiations and I think good things will happen,” Reid said.

After a day in the New York Giants’ rookie camp last week, free agent center Jamaal Jackson told coach Tom Coughlin that his heart wasn’t in it. It now appears his tone has changed. “I’m keeping my options open,” Jackson said Monday. “I don’t know what I’m going to do yet, so it’s kind of funny to keep hearing that I decided to retire. I’m leaning toward retiring, whatever. “The truth is I don’t know. I haven’t filed any papers. I haven’t made the decision, and I won’t until the summer. I don’t know what I’m going to do yet.” Jackson, who spent the 2003 through 2011 seasons with the Eagles, was released in March after losing his starting job to rookie Jason Kelce.

NeReporters have been hard pressed to get any substantive answer from NFL coaches on what they think of the league's harsh penalties stemming from the New Orleans Saints "bounty" scandal, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, however, did not opt for the traditional "no comment" when the media broached the topic this weekend. "I don't agree with bounties," Reid told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I know I don't believe in that, and I know I support what the commissioner did." One of the people hit the hardest was Reid's coaching colleague Sean Payton, who is suspended without pay for the 2012 season. Former Saints and current St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been suspended indefinitely for his role in orchestrating the "bounty" program. Reid told reporters the concept of players intentionally hurting their peers goes against what he's seen from athletes around the league throughout his coaching career. "When you talk to the players, do they want to put a nice hit on somebody? Absolutely. Do they want to maim them, hurt them where they can't make a living? No," Reid said. "Guys don't want to ruin another man's career." Reid also championed the work Goodell has done overall as commissioner, despite the intense criticism he has received. "He's making people accountable for their work and what they say and what they do, and I don't think that's bad," Reid said. "Do people like change? No, people don't like change, so there's going to be people that gripe . . . but I think for the betterment of the game, for the betterment of the NFL, I think he's keeping perspective on that."
