The Indianapolis Colts are making a major play for disgruntled Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins, a source with knowledge of the talks confirmed. In the final year of his contract, Jenkins has stayed home from OTAs with hopes of being traded. The Cowboys have publicly said they viewed Jenkins as a part of their future, and coach Jason Garrett said Thursday "We're not gonna trade him." Yet privately, they have been entertaining offers. Anthony Spencer, one of Jenkins' Cowboy teammates, said he understands that a move to trade the cornerback is a business decision. "If anyone understands, I understand, but at the same time, you want a guy like that to be around the team and what not," Spencer said on Wednesday of the possible move. "But it's always a decision. I support him. He's my teammate. Whatever decision he makes."

The Colts are out of Luck at this week's mini-camp. With new quarterback Andrew Luck still finishing two college classes, team officials are doing what they can to make sure the No. 1 overall draft pick doesn't fall behind in his football studies before returning to Indy on June 8. Veterans can't wait to get a peek at Luck. ''I came in to do some maintenance stuff the last day of rookie mini-camp and I asked him 'Did you throw any picks?''' cornerback Jerraud Powers said. ''He said, 'I don't think I did.' So I said, 'Hi, I'm Jerraud Powers and I'll be picking you off a lot in practice.''' Aside from the ribbing Luck and his fellow rookies will take from the older guys this season, the Colts don't seem too concerned about not having Luck around. Coach Chuck Pagano said Wednesday that the Colts have stayed in constant communication with Luck, that he's been busy with the team's playbook and that he's been able to work out with at least two college teammates, Coby Fleener and Griff Whalen, while at Stanford Fleener and Whalen are both on the Colts' roster.

Colts Owner Jim Irsay Can't Use Plane To Help Andrew Luck Work Out

On Monday morning, we noted it was a little odd that Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay offered his private plane to help his top pick Andrew Luck fly around the country to work out with teammates while Luck finished up his degree at Stanford. (Luck can't work out with the team again until June 7.) It turns out it was a little more than awkward, it was against league rules. Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com first reported that Irsay will not be allowed to use his plane to help Luck out. Luck isn't allowed to practice with the team until Stanford graduates, but this news may have more to do with the salary cap. If owners were allowed to give a player unlimited travel on his private plane, it could be viewed as a bonus, that would be a way of skirting the salary cap.

Andrew Luck Draws Rave Reviews At Colts Rookie Minicamp

The three day Colts rookie minicamp came to a close today, and with it we are getting our first impressions of Andrew Luck as the franchise quarterback. So far, the reviews are very positive: "He’s the same Andrew, as brilliant as ever," said tight end Coby Fleener, Indianapolis’ second-round pick and one of Luck’s college teammates. "He went out and was calling plays that were probably 30 words long off the top of his head. He’s amazing." After the first practice on Friday, head coach Chuck Pagano was asked if he saw any nervousness from Luck: "Zero. He's unflappable. Mature beyond his years." Pagano also stated that the coaches threw a dozen motions and shifts, and about a dozen more pass concepts, at Luck to see how he would handle things. At the end of each practice, Pagano's smile and glowing assessments of Luck were enough to tell everyone that the rookie was picking up the offense just fine. At the Friday p.m. practice, Tom James of the Tribune Star tweeted that Luck was 13-of-16 with his passes with 7-8 in 7-on-7 drills.

Patriots Sign Ex-Colts RB Joseph Addai

Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star tweets that the New England Patriots have signed RB Joseph Addai. The Patriots recently brought in a number of veteran running backs including Addai, Ryan Grant and Tim Hightower. Addai joins a backfield that consists of Danny Woodhead, Steven Ridley and Shane Vereen, so it will be interesting to see what role ends up playing next season. In the last few years, Addai has been used as a third-down back, the in passing game, but he comes with plenty of mileage and some injury concerns.

Former NFL K Gary Anderson's Son Austin Anderson In Colts Camp

Austin Anderson of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, is in rookie camp with the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, according to the Indianapolis Star. The significance of that is that he is the son of long-time NFL kicker Gary Anderson, who kicked for 23 years in the league with the Steelers, Eagles, 49ers, Vikings and Titans. Austin Anderson is hopeful that he can show enough to sign with the Colts to get into training camp. In that event, he would likely be used to alleviate the workload on veteran Adam Vinatieri in camp and preseason.

Chuck Pagano Says Colts 'Are Not Talking About Rebuilding'

The Indianapolis Colts were not shy about showing the door to a long list of aging veterans this offseason, but don't call it a rebuilding year. Coach Chuck Pagano dismissed the "R" word on Saturday. "I got asked the question many times about (rebuilding) and all I told them was that it is next man up. We know we've lost some great players and there has been turnover here -- huge change," Pagano told reporters in comments released by the team. "The culture and the dynamics are totally different, so we've just raised the bar. The expectations are way up here. We said, 'You wouldn't be sitting in this room if someone didn't see something in you. So it is next man up. Get yourself ready to go, learn what you are supposed to do and somebody in here is going to be the next Dallas Clark and somebody is going to be the next Joseph (Addai). Someone will take their place; it happens all of the time.' Said Pagano: "Rebuilding though, we are not talking about rebuilding. Ever."

Dwight Freeney Wants To Remain With The Colts

After 10 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Dwight Freeney has no interest in taking his athletic talents elsewhere accoding to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com. Freeney, though, knows his days in Indianapolis may be numbered. The Colts are adopting a new defensive system, and Freeney’s lucrative contract expires at the end of the 2012 season. This raises the possibility of a trade, even though team management has stuck with Freeney during the early stages of retooling the roster. Asked about his Colts future during a Tuesday night interview with me and co-host Bill Polian on Sirius XM NFL Radio, Freeney said: “I’m kind of old-school when it comes to that thought. I’m not LeBron trying to leave the team. I’m more like the era of Magic and (New York Giants linebacker) Lawrence Taylor, who stayed with that same team for their entire careers win, lose or draw. They were married to the city they were drafted in. You go through the tough times and great times with them, and that’s it. That’s what I’m looking forward to. You don’t know what’s going to happen. I can get traded. They may want to go in a different direction. Maybe I can’t handle the (defensive) scheme. You have all those possibilities. But, personally, I would love to stay.”

Former Colts QB Art Schlichter Sentenced To Nearly 11 Years In Prison

Art Schlichter is going away again, the former Ohio State quarterback, who was the fourth pick in the 1982 draft by the Baltimore Colts, has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison for scamming people in what officials have called a million-dollar sports ticket scheme, according to the Associated Press. The 52-year-old Schlichter had his playing career derailed by a gambling addiction and he’s no stranger to a cell. He has state and federal charges and with good behavior he could be on the street in a little more than nine years. While awaiting trial, Schlichter was free on house arrest but he fouled that up by twice testing positive for cocaine. He also refused to provide urine samples on several occasions. Schlichter has requested drug abuse counseling in prison.

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, the first-overall choice in last week's NFL draft, finished his first practice with the team Friday at a rookie minicamp according to the Indianapolis Star. "He's unflappable," coach Chuck Pagano said. "He's a natural leader." Luck said he arrived in town Thursday and was tired from a long flight. "It's nice to get back and practice football," he said. He said he "didn't get melodramatic" about his first practice as a pro. He was joined by his Stanford teammate Coby Fleener, a tight end and the team's second-round draft choice. "It's nice to know I'm not the only one swimming in information," Luck said.
