Broncos Hope To Open On Monday Night At Home Vs Raiders

If the Broncos get their way, they’ll open the 2010 season with a Monday night game against the rival Oakland Raiders at Invesco Field at Mile High. The Broncos’ usual 2:15 p.m. start for home games puts them in direct conflict with the U.S. Open final that will be on the first Sunday of the NFL’s 2010 season, which is why the Broncos are willing to move Game 1 to Monday night, Sept. 13 in order to break their streak of five season-opening road games. If the Broncos’ request is fulfulled, they would play the second of two Monday night games, which would mean an 8:15 p.m. MDT kickoff.

Seahawks The Broncos' Answer To The Brandon Marshall Dilemma?

Mike Klis of the Denver Post writes that in the Seattle Seahawks' acquisition of restricted free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst from the San Diego Chargers, the Denver Broncos have an answer to their Brandon Marshall problem: Sign him, and trade him to Seattle. Klis suggests that Marshall won't sign the tender until he's assured that he's being traded, and that the Broncos could take the second of Seattle's two first-round picks for Marshall, or could even take Seattle's second-round pick (now the 60th pick overall) and one of the Seahawks' two fourth-round picks for Marshall. Another trade possibility is the Seahawks packaging restricted free agent interior offensive linemen Rob Sims and Chris Spencer, together, or separately along with a draft pick, for Marshall.

Broncos LB Spencer Larsen To Compete To Start In Training Camp?

After the surprising decision to release Andra Davis, who was a key contributor on defense last season, the Broncos have a vacancy to fill in the starting lineup at inside linebacker. While Denver could address the position early in the draft, sources expect Spencer Larsen to get a shot at winning the job in training camp. Larsen is not a well-known player outside of Denver, but he plays a variety of roles on the team, which has made him a valuable backup.

After 16 full seasons and 11 games into a 17th, Jason Elam was three, maybe four games away from becoming the sixth kicker in NFL history to reach 2,000 career points and was released by the Falcons late last season. He has written three books, a fourth is due out in October and in November, he's heading a group trip to Jerusalem. The NFL is playing regular season games in November, so that could be an indication about Elam's future plans.

Justin Bannan, a 6-foot-3, 310-pound defensive lineman, looked into buying property in the Denver area and making this his offseason home, a respite from Buffalo and Baltimore, where he spent four years each but with his football life located across the country, Bannan would always just rent. Here with the Broncos, Bannan will get to start. Bannan has made 27 career starts, including 15 for Baltimore in 2008 but only two last season. "I loved Baltimore, but we were so deep in D-line there that it was tough," Bannan said. "We had a rotation, but you definitely want to be that full-time starter, and it was tough over there to do that."

Thomas now wants to become a candidate for the five-technique defensive end position and has been working out with a personal trainer to get his weight down to 292 pounds. ”The Broncos are aware of Marcus’ plans and he plans on reporting there sooner rather than later,” Burnoski said. ”He wants to make weight first and he’s almost there.”

During his first news conference in Denver since his acquisitionon Sunday from the Cleveland Browns, Broncos quarterback Brady Quinn says his severely sprained left foot is no longer an issue. "The foot is good. I appreciate you asking," Quinn said. Quinn, who started nine games last year, finished the season on injured reserve after sustaining a severe Lisfranc sprain, a tear of the ligament that holds his first two toes in place, in his left foot on Dec. 20 against Kansas City and he spent two months in a walking boot. Lisfranc sprains can require surgery and threaten careers, but that's not the case with Quinn, who also finished the 2008 season in IR with a broken finger on his right hand. "It has been frustrating," he said. "Throughout college I took some hits, but I never had an injury. The type of injuries I've had have been more freakish and weird. My finger breaking. I've never hit a helmet before. The way I got tackles when I hit my foot. It was an awkward was of landing. It was unfortunate."

Broncos QB Brady Quinn Intends To Start In 2010

Brady Quinn was diplomatic, he wouldn't come right out and say he intends to supplant Kyle Orton as the Denver Broncos starting quarterback. But make no mistake, the newest passer at Dove Valley fully intends to be under center and not on the sideline when the 2010 season starts in six months. Quinn said in a conference call Monday that he's thankful for a fresh start in Denver after three up-and-down seasons in Cleveland.

Browns FB Peyton Hillis Questionable To Make The Roster In 2010?

Michael Lombardi of The National Football Post writes that the Browns trade with the Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis was basically a dump. Lombardi says that some fans might think Hillis is a valuable commodity, but his lack of blocking and production without the ball makes him very iffy to even make the Browns roster next season. Hillis might look good occasionally with the ball in his hands, but his lack of overall toughness without it has to be in question.
