Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno was arrested on February 1 for driving under the influence of alcohol, Julie Hayden of KDVR in Denver reports. According to the report, Moreno pulled over in his Bentley convertible for going as fast as 70mph in a construction zone. Moreno submitted to a breath test and was taken into custody. Selected with the 12th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, Moreno had 37 carries for 179 yards in eight games before landing on injured reserve with a torn ACL. In 37 career games, Moreno has rushed for 1,905 yards and 12 touchdowns and caught 76 passes for 686 yards and six touchdowns. "We take the incident involving Knowshon Moreno very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing this matter," the Broncos said in a statement to KDVR on Monday. "Our organization will continue to gather information and closely monitor this issue while the legal process runs its course."

Broncos QB Tim Tebow Wins GMC Never Say Never Award

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has won the GMC Never Say Never award after he and the Broncos finished with a tie for the NFL record with six victories when not leading heading into the fourth quarter. Call it Mile High Magic, Tebow magic, Tebowmania, or whatever you must call it, but one thing is for sure--the Denver Broncos had a heck of a run from the moment that guy became the quarterback, including a six game winning streak and an improbable victory over reigning AFC Champion Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs.

Broncos linebacker Von Miller has won a two-man race with 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith for the 2011 Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Miller, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, sparked a defensive turnaround in Denver with his steady and sometimes spectacular play. He teamed with quarterback Tim Tebow to energize the Broncos, who rallied from a 2-5 record to the AFC West title and a playoff win over Pittsburgh. Miller received 39 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. Smith, also a first-round choice, got the other 11.

Now, Elway is starting to restructure the team's front office in his image. Two weeks after he promoted Matt Russell, a former University of Colorado star linebacker, to director of player personnel, Elway made another significant move this week when he brought in a new salary cap director. The Broncos did not renew the contract of Mike Bluem, their longtime capologist, and replaced him with Mike Sullivan, who oversaw the Octagon Sports agency's football division and has been negotiating player contracts for the past 25 years. Bluem had been with the Broncos for 17 seasons, working closely with general managers Ted Sundquist, Jim Goodman and Brian Xanders.

Brian Dawkins said Thursday the only way he would play one more NFL season is if he returns to the Broncos according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post. Not that Dawkins, 38, is ready to commit to playing one more year or retirement after the safety finished his 16th NFL season with a ninth Pro Bowl nod. "The season is not over yet," Dawkins said. "Our season is, but this football season is not. So why talk about that? I'm not ready to make that announcement. I'll pray about it. If the Broncos want me back at that time, we'll talk."

Jaguars Owner Says He Would Have Drafted Tim Tebow

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan said if he owned the team the at the time of the draft two years ago the Jaguars definitely would have selected Tim Tebow. "100 percent I would have," Khan, who purchased the team for a reported $760 million in January, told WOKV in a recent interview. "Absolutely." The Jaguars used the No. 10 pick to select Cal defensive tackle Tyson Alualu but would have traded for a pick later in the first round to get Tebow, according to a story by Florida Times-Union reporter Gene Frenette. As a local high school standout, then college star at Florida, where he played on two national championship teams, Tebow almost certainly would have caused a stir in the Jags fan base and probably expanded it as well. But while Tebow led the Broncos into the second round of the playoffs with a stunning upset of the Steelers, the Jaguars didn't make the postseason and dealt with near local TV blackouts due to lagging ticket sales.

Broncos SS Brian Dawkins To Retire As An Eagle?

Former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins said Thursday that he hasn't yet made a decision on whether he wants to play a 14th NFL season. The 38-year-old eight-time Pro Bowler, who will be a free agent in March, has played the last three seasons in Denver after leaving the Eagles as a free agent in 2009, missed four of the Broncos' last five games, including both of their playoff games, with a neck injury. "The season's not even over yet; The Super Bowl hasn't been played,'' said Dawkins. "I'll give it some prayer and we'll take it from there.'' Last summer, Dawkins agreed to restructure the contract he signed with the Broncos in '09. His 2011 salary was reduced from $6 million to $2 million. If Dawkins decides to retire, which is a good bet at this point given his age and the neck injury, there's a good chance the future Hall of Famer would sign a one-day contract with the Eagles so that he could officially retire with the club that selected him in the second round of the 1996 draft. "We'll see,'' he said. "I don't even want to think too deeply about that right now. If it happens, just let it be a surprise to everybody and it'll be a surprise for myself and we'll go from there.''

Tim Tebow was the story heading into training camp last summer, he was the story for 20 weeks during the season, and he'll continue to be the story this offseason. Kyle Orton was jettisoned during the season and Brady Quinn is set to be a free agent in a few weeks. While Tebow still remains atop Denver's depth chart heading into training camp, he has plenty to improve on. And when we say plenty, we really mean everything. Broncos general manager Brian Xanders provided specifics. "It's the precision on the passing, it's the accuracy, the footwork, the mechanics, the rhythm, the timing, the quickness, the release. Everything," Xanders told the Denver Post's Mark Kiszla. "And he wants to work at it. And he's dedicated. He's going to work really hard at improving those things. Our coaches, Mike McCoy and Adam Gase, and hopefully even John Elway are going to help him improve throughout the offseason. And he knows he has a lot of work to do. We're excited about him improving in those areas."

The Denver Broncos have denied the Raiders permission to speak to linebackers coach Richard Smith for the Oakland defensive job according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. It’s not a surprise Fox denied Allen permission. He wants to keep as much stability on his defensive coaching staff as possible. It seems more and more teams are denying permission these days and it’s no shock this intra-division hard stance was made.

John Elway Hints At Broncos QB Tim Tebow Having To Compete To Start

Though he said two weeks ago that Tim Tebow will begin training camp as the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback, John Elway insisted to The Denver Post on Monday that any player the team adds this offseason -- including a quarterback -- will compete for a starting job. "We will be in the market to find more quarterbacks," Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations, told the newspaper. "That's our approach with Tim being our starter as we go to training camp, that we'll look at free agency and the draft." Tebow took over a 1-4 team in October and guided the Broncos to their first playoff berth since 2005. But he completed only 46.5 percent of his passes during the regular season and 40.4 percent during the playoffs while compiling an 8-5 overall record that included five second-half comebacks. Elway told the newspaper his ideal quarterback is the "big athlete who can throw the ball from the pocket. Anybody who comes in at any position is going to think they have a chance to compete," Elway told the Post. "Any free agent or anybody that comes in here when we start training camp is going to be competing for jobs. Obviously with Tim's reputation, if the guy is afraid to come in and compete for that job, then maybe he's not the right guy."

Broncos Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio Considered Sitting Out 2012

Newly-hired Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is eager to get to work, but the former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach admitted that he considered sitting out the 2012 season. "Yeah, I thought a lot about it," Del Rio said according to The Associated Press. "I had a lot of advice from my friends who are professionals out there...But I love to compete." Fired by the Jaguars during the 2011 season, Del Rio is owed $5 million from that organization. Del Rio's salary with the Broncos was not disclosed, but that amount will be deducted from the amount the Jaguars will pay him in 2012. In addition to the money, Del Rio was also given some time to recharge his coaching batteries. "I certainly had some time to sit back and reflect, and I’m very appreciative of the time I had down there, nine wonderful years competing, a great place to raise a family," Del Rio said. "And so, there was time to kind of reflect on that, kind of decompress a little bit, kind of unwind. I did some of that. And I find myself right now rejuvenated."

Shane Dronett, a former Falcons defensive tackle remembered for his hard-nosed playing style and his gentleness away from football, ended his life by gunshot Jan. 21, 2009, in his Duluth home. He was 38. An autopsy performed by Boston University neuropathologist Ann McKee, who is at the forefront of research of football-related brain injuries, said that Dronett’s brain tissue was “very supportive of the diagnosis of [chronic traumatic encephalopathy].” The CTE conclusion made sense of the often violent and erratic behavior Dronett demonstrated in the years leading to his death. Dronett was hard-hitting and tough, traits that enabled him to play 10 seasons in the NFL, the last six with the Falcons.

The Denver Broncos have hired Jack Del Rio to be their next defensive coordinator, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Del Rio replaces Dennis Allen, who informed the Broncos that he had accepted the Oakland Raiders' head coaching job. Prior to his eight-plus year stint as the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach, Del Rio spent one season as the defensive coordinator on Broncos head coach John Fox's staff with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers allowed the second-fewest yards in the NFL (290.4 per game) and ranked fifth in scoring defense that season.

Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen was hired as the Oakland Raiders' head coach Tuesday. "This is a great opportunity for him," Fox said. " It's happened pretty fast for him and that's good. I'm excited for him and his family." Fox said Wednesday he will not rush into finding Allen's replacement. "I don't really have a direction set, not yet," Fox said. "We'll sit down as a staff as we get away from the Senior Bowl and put a plan together." Fox was asked if Broncos linebackers coach Richard Smith, a former defensive coordinator with Houston and Miami who also was on Fox's staff in Carolina, would be a candidate. "There will be a lot of considerations and he would be one of them, but I don't like to speculate," Fox said. Fox is expected to give Del Rio a long look as well. Del Rio was in Mobile this week after being fired by the Jaguars this past November. "I guess I'd like to have someone in place some time before next season, that's the deadline," Fox said, laughing. "More than likely, we'll feel good about it when we make a move. But we'll do what think would be the best fit and we'll keep trying to make the kind of progress we want on that side of the ball."

The Oakland Raiders have reached an agreement with Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen that will make Allen their next head coach, Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports. According to Glazer, Allen has informed the Broncos that he will be joining the Raiders. Allen emerged as the leading candidate this week, with the Raiders canceling a scheduled interview with Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice and informing other candidates such as Green Bay Packers assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach Winston Moss and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg that they were no longer candidates. Allen, 39, spent one season as the Broncos defensive coordinator after spending the previous five seasons with the New Orleans Saints, where he was the secondary coach from 2008-10. Allen was an assistant coach with the Atlanta Falcons from 2002-05.

During the Dolphins interview of Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, the topic of defensive coordinator came up. And the Dolphins told McCoy they really liked Todd Bowles and would like him to hire Bowles as the defensive coordinator. McCoy told the Dolphins that as a first time head coach, and an offensive-minded coach at that, he'd like to hire an experienced defensive coordinator but the Dolphins insisted and McCoy pushed back. He ultimately told the team he would be more than happy to include Bowles in the interview process for a defensive coordinator but declined to make any promises to hire him. Obviously, the club went with Philbin as the new head coach and McCoy thinks he didn't get the job over the defensive coordinator issue.
