Tinoisamoa wanted to do a little shopping before committing to the Bears, however. Pompei says it's probable the Bears would give him only a one-year contract close to the NFL minimum.

Bears Likely To Move Frank Omiyale To Right Tackle

The word out of Halas Hall is that 2009 free-agent addition Frank Omiyale, who had his share of issues at left guard last season, is almost certainly going to be moved to right tackle, where he figures to be the favorite over fellow free-agent addition Kevin Shaffer for the starting job. Interestingly, Pro Football Weekly hears that last offseason the Jaguars were also very interested in signing Omiyale before the Bears beat them to the punch. It's worth noting that their offensive line coach at the time was new Bears O-line coach Mike Tice.

Bears WR Juaquin Iglesias To Earn More Playing Time?

While it seems pretty crowded at wide receiver for the Bears all of a sudden, don't discount under-the-radar second-year WR Juaquin Iglesias, a virtual nonfactor as a rookie who some observers believe could make strides similar to those made by Earl Bennett in his second season. Said Bears head coach Lovie Smith at this year's Combine: "Even though we're young, I really feel like (wide receiver) may be the deepest position on our ballclub, and they'll just take off. Even a guy like Juaquin Iglesias that didn't get a chance to play this last year. I saw a lot of good things that he did during practice going against our '1' defense last year."

Bears LB Brian Urlacher Says He Has A Lot Of Respect For Rod Marinelli

Based on the way Bears players have raved about Rod Marinelli this offseason, the transition to the new defensive coordinator appears destined to be seamless. Linebacker Brian Urlacher believes the defensive intensity should at least crank up a few notches, and not just because Julius Peppers is now in the fold. "If you listen to coach Marinelli talk, you want to run through a frickin' wall for him,'' Urlacher said. "When he talks, people listen. I like coach Marinelli. He knows football. He knows how to get guys in position to make plays. And he motivates people. I have a huge amount of respect for him." Marinelli will be the team's fourth defensive coordinator in five seasons, following Ron Rivera, Bob Babich and coach Lovie Smith, who surrendered the duties to Marinelli after last season's struggles.

Bullocks will still have to compete for a job this fall as the Bears are trying to load up at safety. He received a low qualifying offer earlier this offseason.

Free Agent WR Torry Holt Lobbying To Sign With The Bears

Free Agent wide receiver Torry Holt is openly lobbying for the Chicago Bears to sign him so he can reunite with offensive coordinator Mike Martz on a team that could use a veteran's presence among its receivers. Holt told ESPN Radio in Los Angeles that the Bears would be an "obvious" choice and said he has expressed as much to them. "It sounds like that would be the obvious choice and that would be a quick pick-up. But again, they have to do their evaluations, they've got to see if I can even fit with what they're trying to do," Holt said. They've got a lot of young receivers there. They're trying to groom those young receivers and trying to get those young receivers an opportunity to play. If I come in as a vet, I'm going to challenge those guys for a starting spot, and probably more than likely, beat quite a few of them out for a position to play on that football team. So I guess that's something that they would have to evaluate. But if you think of it, it would be a natural fit with coach Martz being there. I know the system, I was in the system for many years and had a lot of success within that system. So it sounds quite natural, but coach Martz doesn't make the final decision. Some of the other people in the organization are going to make the final decision. It's going to have to come from the head coach and general manager Jerry Angelo and that staff on pulling the trigger to bring me in. So I'm just kind of waiting to see, but I did express to them early on, the week that I got released from Jacksonville, that I do have some interest in playing there in Chicago. I feel I could go there and help and contribute to that football team to trying to get things turned around and be a playoff contender. So we'll see how it goes."

Williams is an interesting addition for new offensive coordinator Mike Martz because he was a skilled pass-catching tight end at Idaho.

Running Back Chester Taylor isn’t being paid by the Bears like a backup, he signed a four-year, $12 million contract, with $7 million guaranteed. So it’s no surprise to hear new offensive coordinator Mike Martz gush about Taylor’s skills and that he views the veteran as a starter along with Matt Forte. “We have two starters,” Martz told Larry Mayer of Chicagobears.com. “That’s how we look at it. We’re fortunate to have two starters. As you look around the National Football League, the teams that are running the ball well, they all have two starters. They’ve got two backs. It’s not a 1-2 punch as much as either one of those guys can carry the load. That’s just how they approach it. They will share duties.”

Logic would dictate that Bears defensive end Julius Peppers will be the starting left defensive end in coach Lovie Smith's defense from now until, well, 2015. Smith's history is to use his best pass rusher at that position. The strategy is an elite pass rusher on the left side can have a greater impact because typically he's facing a less athletic offensive tackle. "He has excelled at both (right and left) positions," Smith said. "Even during the course of a game he has been able to do both. We're just going to keep our options open right now. We know he can play both. Kind of see how it all shakes down." Said Peppers: "Left side, right side, it really doesn't matter. Some guys prefer one side, but me, either side is fine."

Julius Peppers Says He Was Willing To Stay With The Panthers

In an exclusive interview with the Observer Saturday, one day after signing a six-year contract that can earn him up to $91.5 million with the Bears, Julius Peppers insisted he was willing to stay with the Carolina Panther and that the two sides were split by a $6 million difference for a four-year deal - or $1.5 million per year. "My feeling is they could have done that," Peppers said. "If they wanted me to stay, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal." He also said it wasn't until about the time he played in the Pro Bowl on Feb. 1 that he decided he definitely wanted out since the Panthers hadn't made any overtures to resume contract talks. He emphatically denied that the team made a late effort to keep him and said the only person in the front office or coaching staff who has contacted him since the season ended is defensive line coach Brian Baker, with whom he's developed a close personal relationship. "It wasn't me who chose to leave," Peppers said in a 29-minute telephone interview from a Chicago hotel room. "At the end of the day, I made the final decision to leave, but it's not like I was closed-minded. ... I was open to staying. I'm not trying to place blame solely on them, though. Both sides could've done things differently to make things work out another way."

According to a league source, at least three teams have interest in Baskett, including the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bears TE Greg Olsen Available For A Second Round Pick?

Bears tight end Greg Olsen could be had for a second round draft pick, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. There have been conflicting reports on Olsen's availability, but this is one of the more specific ones. While it would not seem to make sense for Chicago to move one of its best players, they almost surely will for the right place, especially considering their lack of draft picks this season.
