Dolphins OG Donald Thomas Falling Out Of Favor?

Dolphins vice president of football operations Bill Parcells isn't known for having a soft, cuddly side, and that's why his favorite trait for his players is toughness. That partially explains why Miami signed veteran offensive lineman Richie Incognito to a one-year deal this week that could be worth a reported $1.35 Million. Clearly, this move indicates that Dolphins coaches have grown out of love for 2008 seventh round pick Donald Thomas, who missed all but one game of his rookie season with a fractured foot.

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has repeatedly said he expects to retire after the 2010 season, but a recent decision calls that plan into question. Williams, the second-leading rusher in Dolphins history, has retained high-powered agent Drew Rosenhaus, according to the NFL Players Association Web site. It's possible Williams, who turns 33 in May, is simply looking to expand on his marketing options as his career winds down, then again, he is coming off a strong comeback season that saw him gain 1,121 yards and score 11 touchdowns, could be thinking about extending his career.

Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne wanted it to be made clear: he likes University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow personally, likes how hard Tebow's working at satisfying criticisms of his mechanics and doesn't know what kind of NFL quarterback Tebow will make. Before taking part in an Athletes in Action charity golf event at Inverrary Country Club Friday, Henne said his comments on a Wednesday afternoon WQAM radio show about Tebow were ``blown out of proportion.'' "I didn't really say he wasn't able to be one,'' Henne said. `"We're all in this process, learning how to be an NFL quarterback. Obviously, he's taken the right steps to improve his game. His throwing motion actually looks a lot better with his release and everything. I think his Pro Day went really well and he was happy with it. I can't really say anything. My quarterback coach from college [Scott Loeffler] is coaching him in college. We're coming from the same people. He's obviously learned form a lot of good people. And with Urban Meyer up there, he's learned from the best. "Those were way out of proportion, `he's not going to be an NFL quarterback,' '' he continued. "Wherever he goes, he's going to make that team better because he's such a competitor and a great person."

Barring an unexpected turn, the Patriots and free-agent tight end Alge Crumpler should be uniting in the coming days. "We are closing in on a deal," Crumpler's agent, James "Butch" Williams, said Friday morning. Williams added that no contract has been signed at this time, which means nothing is official. The Patriots have a major need at the position after releasing veteran Chris Baker, a surprising move, and seeing Benjamin Watson sign a free-agent contract with the Cleveland Browns.

He likened the injury to the rib cartilage damage that he suffered on his right side during the second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. Greene said that team trainers outfitted him with a “rib protector plate” during the AFC title game, but he was still having trouble breathing and bending at the waist, so he didn’t get the green light to return.

With 2009 starters Joey Porter and Akin Ayodele likely playing elsewhere next season and Jason Taylor’s future uncertain, the Dolphins have some work to do to fill out their linebacking corps. They took a step in that direction Thursday when they hosted free agent Rashad Jeanty. Jeanty started 32 games with the Bengals over the past four seasons including 15 in 2008, when he finished second on the team in tackles with 96 and last year, he made just one start and totaled 20 tackles.

Former Baltimore Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards officially signed his four-year, $18 Million contract with the Buffalo Bills after agreeing to terms early Wednesday morning. He had visited the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, but didn't get offers because he didn't pass their physicals. Edwards told the Times that the Ravens wanted him to have neck surgery after undergoing spinal fusion surgery two years ago where his C3 and C4 vertebrae were fused and his disc was removed with another surgically inserted from a cadaver.

Dolphins QB Chad Henne Not Impressed With Tim Tebow

By most accounts, University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow's overhauled throwing mechanics displayed during his Pro Day workout helped his cause with the NFL brass. Although privately many NFL people indicate that Tebow hasn't quite allayed all concerns about whether those fundamentals will hold up in an actual game, publicly one member of the NFL's fraternity of starting quarterbacks quite bluntly dismissed Tebow's prospects. Consider Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne not impressed by Tebow. "My judgment is that he's not an NFL quarterback," Henne said during a WQAM radio interview. "I'll leave it at that."
