The report adds that things could turn ugly between Welker and the team including a holdout potentially going as long as possible. Welker played big in his contract year, catching 122 passes for a career-best 1,569 yards and career-high nine touchdowns in 2011. The Patriots are stacked at the quarterback position with future Hall-of-Famer Tom Brady and 2010 3rd-round pick Ryan Mallett but Bill Belichek considers Hoyer an asset and will not let lose him without receiving anything in return. There will likely be some interest in Hoyer around the league but chances are he will remain a Patriot until he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2013.
