Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne will become a free-agent March 13th. Wayne hasn't heard any interest from the Colts. "All I know is the Colts. That is where I want to be. I have been there 11 years and I would prefer to end my career a Colt," Wayne told Josina Anderson of ESPN. "However, in due time those feelings could subside. I know one thing, my phone works. I do have service and every last bar on it and their number has not come across it yet. I haven't heard anything from them yet, so maybe I am not as important on the chain of command as I should be. But either way, I'm cool. I have nothing bad to say about the Colts. The Colts took me in and made me a millionaire. I had nothing before I got here but a bunch of invoices. So either way I am still good, and I will still be friends with all of my teammates. But I am still at a point with all of this Peyton stuff, and this Andrew Luck stuff that I can't be all the way worrying just about that. My phone hasn't rung yet. It's only fair I worry about number 87 first. When I'm signed, then I can weigh in more."

Will Rams WR Brandon Lloyd End Up With Patriots?

Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd told the Post-Dispatch at the end of the season that a big factor in where he play next season is where Josh McDaniels ended up per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Lloyd's career took off after he joined McDaniels in Denver in 2009, and the pair reunited in St. Louis following the trade, but after one ill-fated season as Rams offensive coordinator, McDaniels now has the coordinator's title in New England. The Patriots could be a desirable landing spot for Lloyd for a couple of reasons, for one, the Patriots win and win at a high level and for another, the Patriots need help at wide receiver. Other than Wes Welker and Deion Branch, New England didn't have a wideout catch more than 15 passes, Welker, who led the league with 122 receptions, also is scheduled for unrestricted free agency, although it's hard to see the Patriots letting him walk. Under the old regime at Rams Park, the Rams were interested in re-signing Lloyd, but it's unclear at this point what the new regime thinks of him and there's also a different face on the other side of the negotiating table, because Lloyd recently signed with a new agent, St. Louis-based Tom Condon of CAA.

Patriots To Make Run At Texans DE Mario Williams?

This could all be moot if the Texans try to wrap up their superstar defender but it would not stun Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly one bit if the Patriots make a play for DE Mario Williams. Bill Belichick is nothing if not opportunistic, and he knows that having one of the finest defensive talents potentially come free like this is a once-a-decade kind of thing he can't afford to pass up. Letting Richard Seymour go was a rare Belichick mistake, and sources have said that the coach admits he hasn't been able to adequately replace his former D-lineman. Reports have surfaced that the Texans seriously are torn and are starting to accept the idea that they might have to let Williams walk. Belichick can build a defense around Williams, and everyone who knows him knows he's a team-first winner, as well as a rare, game-changing talent.

Browns TE Ben Watson Has No Lingering Symptoms From Concussions

One of the primary reasons for the Cleveland Browns' dismal showing on offense during the 2011 season was the team's lack of playmakers in the passing game. The shortage of viable targets was highlighted as tight end Ben Watson battled concussions throughout the season and ultimately was placed on injured reserve following a third concussion sustained Week 14 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Two months after that injury, Watson said he feels great. "I'm great. Three or four days after the last incident, I felt normal," Watson, who spent the first six seasons of his career playing for the New England Patriots, said during a recent interview with the Boston Herald. "I passed all my cognitive tests. I didn't have any headaches. I didn’t have any nausea. I didn’t have any dizziness. ... With three games left, they just erred on the side of caution and decided to end the season for me. You hate for that to happen, but that's why the doctors are in place. As far as lingering symptoms, I didn't have anything. I know some guys have headaches for weeks. That wasn't my scenario, thankfully. So hopefully, it was just a bad luck year."

The waiting game continues with Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. Despite anticipation a meeting would take place this week to at least begin the process of determining the rehabilitating quarterback's future with the team, that did not occur. On his Twitter account, owner Jim Irsay wrote: "Things r quiet this week n weekend, getting ready for NFL Combine, completing coaching staff, analyzing roster. There's no news on Peyton." Prior to Super Bowl XLVI, Irsay indicated he and Manning hoped to meet this week. The Colts must decide whether to pay Manning a $28 million option bonus by March 8 or allow him to become an unrestricted free agent. Manning, who wants things settled sooner rather than later, spent part of this week working out at Duke University.

Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward wants to finish his career in Pittsburgh, offering to restructure his contract to do it. Ward posted on his Facebook page Saturday that he has already told the Steelers he's willing to work with them on altering his deal so he can remain with the team. Ward's comments came after NFL.com reported the team was planning to cut the franchise's all-time leading receiver. The 35-year-old Ward is scheduled to make $4 million in 2012. He's coming off a season in which he finished with 46 receptions for 381 yards and two touchdowns, the lowest totals in each category since he was a rookie in 1998.

Jaguars Offensive Coordinator Bob Bratkowski Sees Talent In Blaine Gabbert

New Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski made an appearance on Jaguars This Week on Wednesday evening. Bratkowski spoke on a myriad of different things concerning developing the offense, including what he's seen from quarterback Blaine Gabbert on film. He came in probably in the worst year a quarterback can come into the NFL (because of the lockout last off-season). "He came out of a shotgun system. He hadn't taken four-or-five step drops. He had no benefit of OTAs and offseason. He showed up to training camp and had to go get it, and that's a very difficult thing. He's at the point now where he had that first taste of being under center, being exposed to offensive communication styles and being exposed to NFL defenses," Bratkowski said of Gabbert. One thing quite a few fans have noticed with Gabbert, Bratkowski also noticed. Gabbert needs a lot of work on his fundamentals, and that will be one of the first things Bratkowski keys in on. "But, really the first thing we're going to be working on are his fundamentals under center until the time he gets the ball out of his hand. He has a lot of work to do, but there's an enormous wealth of talent there," Bratkowski added about Gabbert.

Earlier this week, The Sports Xchange had a column citing seven pending unrestricted free agents who might be difficult to re-sign because their incumbent franchises had already invested huge contracts in players at the same position. Add another: Four-year veteran cornerback Brandon Carr of Kansas City could be a victim of the six-year, $49.4 million extension the Chiefs awarded fellow corner Brandon Flowers in September. Carr is only 25 years old, registered a career-best four interceptions in 2011 and will be near the top of a deep cornerback class in free agency.

Raiders Will Pay DT Richard Seymour His $7.5 Million Roster Bonus

By being on the roster on the fifth day of the 2012 waiver wire period, Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour's base salary for 2012 is now fully guaranteed, a league source has confirmed on Saturday. Seymour signed a two-year, $30 million contract on February 25, 2011, a deal that included a fully guaranteed $7.5 million 2012 roster bonus -- which was prorated over two seasons, but comes due on March 17 -- and fully guaranteed $15 million base salary in 2011. Seymour restructured that contract after the lockout, adding three years and lowering his $15 million salary to $910,000 and receiving a $14.09 million bonus that was prorated over five seasons. Barring another restructure, Seymour is scheduled to earn $7.5 million in base salary in 2012. The final three years and $22.5 million are voidable by Seymour being on the roster five days after Super Bowl XLVI.

Steelers Reportedly Won’t Bring Back WR Hines Ward

Hines Ward is one of the iconic Pittsburgh Steelers so playing football in anything but black and gold would feel like a mismatch. But NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora told “NFL Total Access” Friday that Ward won’t be back next season, according to his sources. As the Steelers work to restructure contracts and manuever below the salary cap, the circumstances are dictating the twilight of Ward’s 14-year career. On the books, he has one year and $4 million left on his current contract. On the field, Ward also took a backseat to youngsters Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown, posting his lowest receiving totals since his rookie season in 1998.

Raiders To Use Franchise Tag On SS Tyvon Branch?

The shakeup of the Oakland defense began earlier this week, with general manager Reggie McKenzie lopping off cornerback Sanford Routt, arguably one of the NFL's most overpaid players. There are doubtless more changes to come on a unit that one of the club's various consultants after the death of Al Davis criticized sharply and noted was in need of talent, but the Raiders will attempt to hang on to four-year veteran strong safety Tyvon Branch. There is, in fact, a possibility the Raiders could use the franchise marker on Branch, a former fourth-round draft pick (2008) who has started all 16 games each of the past three seasons, after playing mostly as a special-teams guy as a rookie. McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen covet toughness in the secondary, and Branch provides it. He has only three career interceptions, but is solid in run support, and has averaged 112.3 tackles in his three years as a starter.

Patriots RB Kevin Faulk Contemplating Retirement

On Friday, long time Patriots running back Kevin Faulk sat down with NESN to talk about his 13-year NFL career and the Patriots' 21-17 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. A lot of people thought the Super Bowl would be Faulk's last game, turns out he didn't even play. "That morning, when I got the word that I wasn't going to dress, wow," said Faulk. "I went in the room, cried a little bit, because 75 percent of me knew that this could be my last game playing, not playing, just dressing. If I dress there could possibly be that chance that I could play. So that really crushed me a whole lot." There has been a lot of buzz around whether or not Faulk will call it a career at 13 very productive seasons in the Patriots' backfield. He's totaled 31 career touchdowns with over 7,000 yards from scrimmage as the team's third down back. After an emotional Super Bowl, he doesn't plan on making a retirement decision any time soon until he gets his thoughts together. "(I took) my exit physical after the game and the trainers give me a big hug and that's when I knew, like 'Wow, that might be it.' If they know, you definitely know. Going through that evening after the game and worrying about the loss and being like, wow, guys have another opportunity to come back next year and do it again. Mine is very slim, and it's not by my choice this time," said Faulk. "Right now and with the emotions that are going on and with the game that just happened last week, I know everyone was speculating that I was going to make a decision, probably today or what not; it's kind of early. I don't want to tie my emotions into exactly what went on Sunday that passed, what went on the course of the season, I just think it's something that I have to sit down and talk with my family and my agent, teammates, former teammates that I've talked to, people that I really trust, for me to base my decision off of."

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski Had “Multiple Torn Ligaments”

A team source told the Boston Globe that New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who had arthroscopic surgery Friday on his injured left ankle, suffered multiple torn ligaments. Gronkowski was able to play in Super Bowl XLVI, but was limited by the high left ankle sprain he suffered during the AFC Championship Game. The normally explosive Gronkowski, who set NFL single-season records for touchdowns (17) and receiving yards (1,327) by a tight end, finished with two receptions for 26 yards. He is expected to recover in 10 weeks, according to the Sports Business Journal, which would get him back on the field in time for organized team activities in the spring.

Titans, DE/DT Jason Jones Discussing A Contract Extension

The Tennessee Titans have begun preliminary discussions with free agent defensive lineman Jason Jones on a contract extension, according to sources familiar with the situation. Jones is one of 16 Titans who are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on March 13, but is also at or near the top of the list of players the Titans hope to retain and keep off the market. The Titans re-signed tackle Mike Otto on Thursday and had previously signed tight end Craig Stevens last month. Jones could be the next target as general manager Ruston Webster and the club identify players they would like to keep from the current roster whose contracts have expired. No deal is yet imminent, but the sides are discussing the situation.
