NFL Free Agent WR Plaxico Burress Waits For 'The' Phone Call

Plaxico Burress is waiting for the phone to ring and waiting and waiting ... Despite a decent showing for the New York Jets in 2011 (45 rec., 612 yards, 8 TDs) after a two-season hiatus following his incarceration on a handgun charge, Burress hasn't found a willing employer for this season. "With some of the things I was able to do after being away for two years, I pretty much thought it spoke for itself," Burress told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "But I guess obviously not." A major injury to a starting receiver somewhere in the NFL would probably bolster the case of Burress, whose 6-5 frame still makes him a formidable red zone weapon. He also claims to be in much better shape (he'd just been released from prison at this time last year), however his ability to separate seemed largely diminished during his time with the Jets. But his age (35 next month) and reputation surely are not helping him, though he disputed any notion he was anything less than a stellar teammate. "For anybody to say I was a problem in the locker room or anything like that is totally a lie," Burress said. "All I did was come out, was a great teammate, tried to play the best football that I could play."
