eh, i'm not in total agreement. that's debateable. and, if we're talking front 7, the niners are WAY better than the Lions and if we're talking total defense, it's not even close.

Thing is you can stop the Saints a few times but he will get his. Can the 49ers match them touchdown for touchdown? I don't think so. The Saints will get touchdowns and the 49ers will get field goals. That is why I think they will win this game. .
Now THIS makes sense. If the niners fall into their regular routine of not being able to punch the ball into the end zone, clearly they won't be able to score enough.

However, don't just 'assume' the Saints are going to score their regular 30 points this game. This niners defense is not a regular defense and the saints haven't faced a defense this good this season.

The niners haven't given up 30 points to anyone all season. of course, they haven't played an offense like the saints either.

don't get me wrong. i picked the saints to win this game in the playoff pool and i still feel comfortable with that decision. i'm just saying there are some chinks in the armor for sure and them winning the super bowl is not a foregone conclusion, as many feel it is.

Nah, I doubt they hit their usual 40. I am just saying that they are more capable of putting up more points on San Fran than San Fran putting up more points on New Orleans. I see this as like a 24-16 game with the Saints winning. But you can never really tell what will happen in the playoffs. I thought that the Bengals would have done better than the Texans cause of the qb situation. We know what to expect from the 9ers defense. But what about the offense? Can they keep up if it is indeed a shootout? I think we can win a close game. Last year I would have dreaded this game with our running game so poor. This year we can win a shootout or a grind it out run fest. Thing is will Payton be patient enough with the run game if it comes down to it. Last night he was itching to throw it all over the place when running the ball was going so well. If we do have a weakness, I believe that is it. Not the players but with Payton. But that is a good weakness to have.

We have faced some good defenses this year. The Titans and Texans. Not the same physical type but good in their own right. And we did beat the 9ers in the preseason. Granted it was the preseason but we beat the others in preseason and regular season also. And with the extra game tape I know Payton will have some ideas what to do with the personnel packages. And Gregg will have some looks for Smith. Just have to tackle in this game and the Saints should win. No guarantees on anything though.

Man, talk about switching places. Back in the 80's we were the ones with the great defense and San Fran was the one with a great offense. If you would say back then that 20 years later the roles would be reversed I would have laughed.
you cant compare the lions front 4 because the niners run a 3-4. Niners have the better front 7. oh and the niners have scored 17 or more points in 14 out of 16 games

So? We have averaged 30 or more points this season. So what? What does running a 3-4 have to do with Detroit having a better front line? So they have a better front 7 which means they have a worse back 4? If so, then Brees will pass for 600 yards then.

you really dont see the reason why u cant compare? the niners dline primary job is to eat up blockers to let the niners LBs roam free. They eat up blockers as good if not better than any other 3-4 dline. the 4th or 5th rusher come from the LB spot. The main reason to cant compare. Btw the niners 3 down lineman are better the lion front 4

dude I know all about the 3-4. Saints ran that for years. No matter what position or size of the players you still have an average of 4-5 guys rushing. I give you that the 49ers have a better front 7 but there is no way that you can tell me that the Lions defensive line is worse than the 49ers. I am not including linebackers in this equation. I am talking hand on the ground and edge rushers. Just don't see it. And your statement above proves my point. The job for the Detroit front line is to get to the qb and stop the run. According to you the front line for the 49ers is to free up the linebackers. I would be an idiot to think the linebackers for the Lions are even remotely close to the 49ers linebackers. No comparison at all. I am talking the front line

36 of the niners 42 sacks this year have been from hand on the ground and edge rushing. 35 of the lions 41 sacks have been from the d-line.

Saints are second since 2006 with 72 sacks given up. Teams just don't get that many sacks against the Saints.
