NFL Draft Mike Mayock's Updated NFL Mock Draft

Mike Mayock's NFL Draft

Quote:
1. Miami Dolphins

Chris Long
DE, Virginia
The Miami Dolphins select Chris Long. The deal here is he's 272 pounds, he's a freakish athlete with a great motor. He gives them immediate production and scheme versatility.
Video: Meet Chris Long

Video: Long reflects on Pro Day workout
Video: Mayock breaks down Long

2. St. Louis Rams

Jake Long
OT, Michigan
With the second pick, St. Louis is ecstatic. They get Jake Long, the big left tackle who I think is a better right tackle. Day 1, they plug him in, ultimately he can replace Orlando Pace on the left side.

3. Atlanta Falcons

Glenn Dorsey
DT, LSU
GM Tom Dimitroff takes the immediate production of the top defensive tackle in the draft, Glenn Dorsey from LSU. They plug him in at the three-technique, he replaces Rod Coleman.

4. Oakland Raiders

Vernon Gholston
DE, Ohio State
Let's face it, Al Davis is always a wild card. A lot of people think it's Darren McFadden, I think it's the Shawne Merriman clone, Vernon Gholston, the defensive end-rush linebacker from Ohio State.
Video: Meet Vernon Gholston
Video: Charles Davis on Gholston's Pro Day workout
Video: Gholston on combine performance
Video: Davis breaks down Gholston

5. Kansas City Chiefs

Matt Ryan
QB, Boston College
Kansas City wants to trade down, and they may prior to or on draft day. But if they sit tight it's the only franchise quarterback in this year's draft, Matt Ryan, from Boston College.
Video: Meet Matt Ryan
Video: Mayock on Ryan's Pro Day workout
Video: Ryan on coming back to school last year
Video: Ryan runs 40 at combine

6. New York Jets

Darren McFadden
RB, Arkansas
Both rush linebackers are gone. They need playmakers at offense, I think they overlook the off-the-field character issues and take the explosive tailback from Arkansas, Darren McFadden.
Video: Meet Darren McFadden
Video: Watch McFadden's combine workout
Video: Mayock breaks down McFadden
Video: Davis on McFadden's stock

7. New England Patriots (From San Francisco)

Branden Albert
G, Virginia
I think they need an immediate upgrade athletically, the level of their offensive line was exposed in the Super Bowl against the varied schemes of the New York Giants. I like Branden Albert from the University of Virginia.
Video: Jamie Dukes on offensive line propsects
Video: Watch Albert's combine workout
Video: Davis breaks down Albert

8. Baltimore Ravens

Leodis McKelvin
CB, Troy
The Ravens would like to trade down, but if they stay at eight they get a corner and a punt returner. Troy's Leodis McKelvin can immediately play the nickel and return punts.
Video: McKelvin reflects on combine
Video: Watch McKelvin's combine workout
Video: Mayock on McKelvin's workout

9. Cincinnati Bengals

Sedrick Ellis
DT, USC
The Bengals sit at No. 9 and they get the No. 2 defensive tackle in the draft, Sedrick Ellis from USC. He can play nose or the three-technique and he's explosive up the field.
Video: Meet Sedrick Ellis
Video: Ellis credits USC coach Pete Carroll
Video: Ellis on his Pro Day workout

10. New Orleans Saints

Keith Rivers
LB, USC
I think it's Keith Rivers, the outside linebacker from USC. He augments the offseason acquisition of Jonathan Vilma, now all of a sudden their athletic at the linebacker position.
Video: Rivers on Pro Day workout
Video: Watch Rivers' combine workout
Video: Mayock breaks down Rivers

11. Buffalo Bills

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
CB, Tennessee St.
The've got a heavy need at wide receiver, but there's no value at this point. The Bills go with cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie from Tennessee State. If there's one guy that's made a vertical move up the charts it's Rodgers-Cromartie. Lit up the combine, had a great Senior Bowl week, he's now on the board at No. 11.
Video: Meet Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Video: Watch Rodgers-Cromartie's combine workout
Video: Watch Rodgers-Cromartie at the Senior Bowl

12. Denver Broncos

Ryan Clady
OT, Boise State
It's time to protect young quarterback Jay Cutler's weak side. Ryan Clady from Boise State is the prototypical left tackle in the NFL.
Video: Where does Clady stack up?

13. Carolina Panthers

Jonathan Stewart
RB, Oregon
It's an either an offensive tackle or this guy -- Oregon running back Jonathan Stewart. They need a big back to complement DeAngelo Williams who is entering his third year out of Memphis.
Video: Meet Jonathan Stewart
Video: Watch Stewart's combine workout
Video: Where does Stewart stack up?

14. Chicago Bears

Jeff Otah
OT, Pittsburgh
Chicago, looking for Jeffrey Otah, the big tackle from the University of Pittsburgh. They desperately need an offensive line upgrade. He's a brawler that will fit well in the Windy City.
Video: Otah reflects on combine performance
Video: Watch Otah's combine workout
Video: Where does Otah stack up?

15. Detroit Lions

Jerod Mayo
LB, Tennessee
Instant upgrade at the sam or the mike, Jerod Mayo, the linebacker from the University of Tennessee. He will be a tremendous compliment to weak-side linebacker Ernie Sims.
Video: Watch Mayo's combine workout

16. Arizona Cardinals

Rashard Mendenhall
RB, Illinois
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt continues the transition to a physical team. Last year, Levi Brown, this year, Rashard Mendenhall. I think he's the best back in the entire draft.
Video: Where does Mendenhall stack up?
Video: Watch Mendenhall's combine workout

17. Minnesota Vikings

Derrick Harvey
DE, Florida
At 17, Minnesota, boy they can't believe Derrick Harvey is still there. He's the third-best defensive end in the draft, he falls to them at 17, that's tremendous value for the Vikings.
Video: Meet Derrick Harvey
Video: Where does Harvey stack up?

18. Houston Texans

Chris Williams
OT, Vanderbilt
At 18, Houston, the prototype left tackle, Chris Williams from Vanderbilt. He will provide an immediate athletic upgrade and quarterback Matt Schaub couldn't be happier.
Video: Williams reflects on combine performance
Video: Watch Williams' combine workout

19. Philadelphia Eagles

Mike Jenkins
CB, South Florida
With a multitude of needs, the Eagles take Mike Jenkins the corner and kickoff returner from South Florida. I anticipate Lito Sheppard being traded, they are going to need a third corner.
Video: Where does Jenkins stack up?
Video: Watch Williams' combine workout

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Aqib Talib
CB, Kansas
Don't forget that the loss of corner Brian Kelly is more significant than people think. Kansas' Aqib Talib steps in Day 1 opposite Ronde Barber. He's an upgrade.
Video: Talib explains decision to enter draft
Video: Watch Williams' combine workout
Video: Mayock breaks down Talib

21. Washington Redskins

Calais Campbell
DE, Miami
They need to get some more pressure on the quarterback and the first pick of the Jim Zorn era needs to set the pace. Calais Campbell's best football is ahead of him as he grows into his 6-foot-8 frame.
Video: Where does Campbell stack up?

22. Dallas Cowboys
(From Cleveland)

Felix Jones
RB, Arkansas
For Dallas, with Julius Jones gone to Seattle, Arkansas' Felix Jones provides the explosive complement to Marion Barber.

Video: Watch Jones' combine workout
Video: Where does Jones stack up?

23. Pittsburgh Steelers

Gosder Cherilus
OT, Boston College
The massive offensive tackle from Boston College is more comfortable on the right side, but ultimately has the ability to play on the left side. He will protect Ben Roethlisberger's weak side.
Video: Watch Cherilus' combine workout
Video: Watch Cherilus at Senior Bowl practices
Video: Where does Cherilus stack up?

24. Tennessee Titans

Devin Thomas
WR, Michigan State
Jeff Fisher adds the most explosive wide receiver to the Vince Young arsenal, it's Devin Thomas from Michigan State. Only six catches as a sophomore, had 79 before coming out as a junior.
Video: Watch Thomas' combine workout
Video: Where does Thomas stack up?

25. Seattle Seahawks

Kentwan Balmer
DT, North Carolina
In Seattle, it's Kentwan Balmer, the big nose tackle from the University of North Carolina. He steps in for departed defensive tackles Chuck Darby and Ellis Wyms.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars

Phillip Merling
DE, Miami
Jacksonville can't believe that Phillip Merling falls to them at No. 26, mostly because of sports hernia surgery. Teams were afraid of it, he slides, Jacksonville gets great value.
Video: How does Merling stack up?

27. San Diego Chargers

Brandon Flowers
CB, Virginia Tech
At 27, San Diego, they get the best corner in the draft in my opinion, he just can't run. Brandon Flowers is the most physical corner I've seen in five years watching tape.
Video: Watch Flowers' combine workout
Video: Mayock breaks down Flowers

28. Dallas Cowboys

DeSean Jackson
WR, California
Dallas, again, puts a playmaker on the board. DeSean Jackson is another weapon for Tony Romo. Jackson provides big-play capability as a wide receiver and also in the return game.
Video: Watch Jackson's combine workout
Video: Mayock breaks down Jackson

29. San Francisco 49ers
(From Indianapolis)

Dan Connor
LB, Penn State
The San Francisco 49ers would love to add Dan Connor from Penn State. You plug him next to Patrick Willis, forget about that inside linebacker position for the next 10 years.
Video: Meet Dan Connor
Video: Mayock breaks down Connor
Video: How does Connor stack up?

30. Green Bay Packers

Sam Baker
OT, USC
Green Bay drafts Sam Baker at No. 30. He is a versatile offensive lineman from USC. He can play tackle, he can play guard, he will help with the adjustment of new quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Get the full analysis of Sam Baker

31. New York Giants

Mario Manninghman
WR, Michigan
The Super Bowl champions need a legit No. 2 wide receiver opposite Plaxico Burress. Mario Manningham has a big-time skill set, if his work ethic can improve and he stays out of trouble, he can be a home-run hitter for the Giants.
Video: Watch Manningham's combine workout
Video: How does Manningham stack up?
