Taylor Mays was timed as fast as 4.19 seconds in the 40-yard dash by former USC coach Pete Carroll when the NFL safety prospect and the new Seattle Seahawks coach were on the Trojans' campus, according to a league source. Mays' official time today was 4.43 seconds after unofficial times of 4.24 and 4.34 seconds. Among the NFL brass that were high on Mays: San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary, the former Chicago Bears middle linebacker.
