49ers [49ers] 49ers Hire Mike Martz for Offensive Coordinator

Despite some initial resistance from ownership, San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Nolan has hired Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator.

Martz, offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions for the past two years, agreed to a two-year deal with the 49ers. The reason for a two-year contract is that it coincides with the remaining length of Nolan's deal in San Francisco. The two coaches worked together when they were with the Washington Redskins.

Nolan interviewed former Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey late last week and was planning on visits from former Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron and former Ravens coach Brian Billick.

Martz visited Monday and was offered a contract Tuesday morning.

The team hopes Martz will reinvent a unit that finished last in most statistical categories last season.

Not a Martz fan at all but he definitely should be able to improve the offense. He doesn't have the personnel that he will need to make a big impact though.

hes a good oc , but hes got very complex schemes and when you got morons like the Lions who cant understand them it makes him look bad, this is an improvement in the 49ers personnel.

IMO, he's not what the 49ers need, he's not a QB guy so Smith is still fucked we have no WRs and Martz loves to go long, what's he going to do with Gore????? The only guy on the team that is probably happy about this change is Vernon Davis.

We're going to see another year of fucking shit.
