Lions Don't Expect Roy Williams To Be Traded

Quote:
Don't believe the recent rumors you hear about Lions receiver Roy Williams getting traded.

Oh, the Lions will entertain trade offers for Williams but, according to a source close to the situation, the Lions will only pull the trigger on a deal if there's overwhelming value for Detroit. Williams is on the trading block, but not the same block as defensive tackle Shaun Rogers. The Lions want to part with Rogers if they get decent value and there's more motivation for head coach Rod Marinelli to move on without Rogers.

It's an entirely different situation with Williams, who has one more year on his contract. Williams is expected to leave Detroit via free agency in 2009 because, barring an unforeseen situation, he won't be tagged as the franchise player. The Lions will listen to offers now, but would prefer to get at least one more stellar year out of Williams.

According to the source, the Lions believe the departure of offensive coordinator Mike Martz will make Williams a happier player in 2008 and might be instrumental in getting him to return in 2009. It's another reason why the Lions won't deal Williams unless they get an offer they can't refuse.

So they finally get a receiver via free agency who hasn't been a total bust and they want to let him go. They drafted Charles Rogers in 2003 and Mike Williams in 2005, both busts. I believe they should keep Roy Williams. I can really see him, Calvin Johnson, and Mike Furrey forming an amazing receiver group.

Roy Williams was a draft pick of theres. By all means they should trade him to Dallas for a 1st. Hes almost a lock to leave when his contract is up so they should really take what they can get for him, its not like they have a serious shot at making it to the playoffs.

From what I understand, both Williams and RB Kevin Jones want out of Detroit. Is a first round draft pick all they want for Williams? That's the question in my mind. I would think they'd want more than that.
