Giants Complain to the NFL About Texans; NFL Ignores Them http://www.gridironfans.com/story.php?t=50231
Source: Dan Benton, NFL Fanhouse [ Full Article ]
Are the Giants crying foul over the Houston Texans matching their offer sheet for fullback Vonta Leach? According to the Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo, they are. While citing "several NFL sources," Garafolo let it be known that the Giants have in fact complained to the NFL about the Texans tactics and how they went about matching the Giants offer to the then restricted free agent. Apparently the Texans changed some of clauses and dollar amounts in the contract. Ultimately, that doesn't really count as "matching" the offer, but essentially giving Leach an entirely different deal. When the Giants saw this they were obviously very displeased to say the least and contacted the league with complaints. Basically what it boils down to are a lot of uncrossed t's and undotted i's. It's a confusing mess of cash and the Texans playing some shady, but not necessarily illegal, games with the Giants. The bottom line is that the NFL ignored the Giants "foul calls" and sided with the Texans. Did they really "cheat?" Who I am to say? It seems a tad unfair but that's the way to cookie crumbles. Plus, I think the Giants are better off without giving $7-$8 million to a fullback who was never an everyday starter anyway.
