Jets FS Eric Smith 'Day To Day' With Hip And Knee Injuries

Eric Smith left the preseason opener against the Bengals with what coach Rex Ryan called hip and knee injuries, but the Jets safety did not sound overly concerned. "I don’t think its anything too serious," Smith said. Smith was down on the field and then limped off with the team's training staff. A team spokesman said Smith is "day to day" and X-Rays taken at the stadium were negative. It's the same knee that Smith had arthroscopic surgery on this offseason to repair a torn meniscus, but he said this injury is different. He expects to get a diagnosis Saturday after the medical staff has a chance to read his MRI results.
