Patriots Owner Robert Kraft Hands Out AFC Title Rings, Wants The 'Real One'

They passed out championship hardware at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, as the New England Patriots were presented with their AFC Championship rings during a team meeting headed by owner Robert Kraft. Of course, they'd rather have Super Bowl rings. "Let's get the real one," Kraft told USA TODAY Sports of his message to the team. The Patriots came up short against the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI, but Kraft reminded players and coaches of their roles in one of the franchise's most memorable seasons, which was dedicated to his late wife, Myra. "It didn't end the way we all hoped," Kraft told the team, "but winning an AFC Championship Game at home in front of 70,000 fans is a great accomplishment and something that I will never forget." The 14-karat, white gold ring was designed to capture the significance of the season, as the Patriots logo on the top of the ring is emblazoned with seven marquise diamonds that represent the seven AFC titles won by the franchise. The logo is surrounded by 32 round diamonds (representing the NFL's 32 teams) that are enhanced with special cut garnet and blue sapphire stones.
