College football will finally have a playoff. Come 2014, the BCS is dead.

A committee of university presidents on Tuesday approved the BCS commissioners' plan for a four-team playoff to start in two years.

"A four-team playoff doesn't go too far," Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger said. "It goes just the right amount. There were differences of views," Steger said. "I think it would be a serious mistake to assume it was a rubber stamp."

The commissioners want to lock in this format for 12 years with a television partner. The current BCS deal with ESPN runs through the 2013 season. The new format will be presented to potential TV partners in the fall, starting with ESPN.

"By making this change we felt we could enhance the regular season but at the same time provide the fans with the kind of postseason that will contribute to the regular season," Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive said.

I love it. So fucking excited.

But 12 years is a long time. I'd be welling to bet that by that time everyone will hate this system as much as we hated the bcs.

aren't the four teams selected by a panel of three people? That is what I heard. Condelessa Rice was mentioned as one. Why not just take the top 4 teams in the polls?

wake up phoolz. only thing this system does is assasinate the BCS without involving congress. the top 4 teams will still get in. noway does a 6th or 7th ranked team jump into the playoffs. aint happening. make the SEC stronger and conferences like thebig east and wac weaker.

All this does now, is makes sure that no one can whine the next time a two teams from the same conference are in the title game. It will happen more with this, more than it would in the BCS. What exactly does that solve?
