Why though? Is there a reason he can't give us WC aspirations? We have A LOT of talent in the talent pool right now. The issue was Bob Bradley was kind of a dumbass. He had a lot of talent on the team that he didn't utilize such as Demarcus Beasley. That dude is still a stud and showed it. Word is in November the US is going to be playing 2 matches in Europe, 1 most likely against France so I'm hoping he calls up some of the regulars for that and we see a consistent team play.
The fact that Landon Donovan is the "greatest player of all time", despite failing everywhere outside of the MLS, does more than suggest that the USA will not even sniff a WC Semi-Final any time soon.
The fact is, US lost to a lot of shitty teams recently and are making a big deal from being Honduras. That's not progress, that's regression.
Did you not watch his last stint in Everton? I'm pretty sure that he didn't "fail miserably" there.
And you disagree that we don't have a ton of talent in our talent pool? We have quite a few young guys who are getting some GREAT experience domestic and abroad. Our coaching staff has a great leader in Klinsmann. The USMNT needs a complete reboot. We LOVE the run n gun and that doesn't work. They need to work on control, making smart passes and playing strategic, methodical soccer. Klinsmann brings all of this. He had great success with Germany and I think that he'll bring big success to the US. Baby steps my friend. Will we win the WC in 2014? Probably not. 2018? Who knows. But in the end it's just helping to make an impact on the national scene that we need at this time. So will Klinsmann help the US to win a World Cup in his reign? Maybe not. But the impact he'll have will be far greater. As it is, look how many German and Mexican American guys are choosing the US over their home nations? We already have 5, who knows how many will join them when all is said and done. Bottom line is he brings excitement to US Soccer and it's an ever growing sport in the states.
Donovan has been successful everywhere he has been.
No one said the US was going to the semifinals. We said we have a chance to be successful under Klinsmann who is a great coach despite what you think.
the fact is the US lost to a bunch of shitty teams but they weren't trying to win. They were meaningless games that Klinsmann just wanted to get a look at a few young players. If you think those were the US A teams your insane.

Yep he was so great they didn't take him back.

You may have solid talent, but nothing that resembles more than that. Counting MLS as great experience is ridiculous also, just full of past it foreigners and Americans who couldn't cut it in Europe. And who/where are these young guys overseas? I presume somewhere in eastern europe?

His resume consists of getting Germany to the semi-finals of a World Cup, but then again, what German coach hasn't been able to make Germany perform in the World Cup (Not to mention Low was the brains of the unit), and he got chased out of Bayern. Don't confuse him for Sir Alex just yet.

Only probably not? I consider myself an open minded guy, but there is NO CHANCE of US sniffing a final in the next 20 years, and I probably would have put in semi finals but then again we've seen Turkey, Korea & Uruguay make runs that far before.
The fact is, there are so many factors that prevent US from ever being successful, including it being a minority interest to sports fans, a low pool of athletic talent to choose from, knowledge etc.

Yeah and none of them had a sniff at those teams no doubt.
I hate to be so down on America because they have produced some decent teams that are fun to watch, and seemingly an endless supply of top class keepers, but to believe that the US have a remote chance of winning a World Cup imminently is frankly absurd and wildly unrealistic. England doesn't have a realistic chance of winning anything for the next ten years, yet the level of talent coming through is without a shadow of a doubt superior to anything you guys have.

I wonder about that fact too. The only American I knew is Jermaine Jones, but he grew up at Germany, has dual citizenship, wasn't good enough to survive the cut for the German team and is now playing for the US

We have:
Timmy Chandler (would have played for Germany without a doubt), Fabian Johnson who plays for Hoffenheim.
It's mostly young players.
Chandler WILL start for the US in the WC.
Danny Williams is another good prospect.
John Anthony Brooks
young Americans coming up through the Bundesliga:
Timmy Chandler, Danny Williams, Fabian Johnson, Joe Gyau, Charles Renken, Fabian Hurzeler, Alfredo Morales, John Anthony Brooks.
