Vikings Confirm WR Greg Childs Out For The Year After Tearing Both Patella Tendons

Vikings rookie WR Greg Childs suffered torn patellar tendons in both knees late in Saturday night's scrimmage at Verizon Vikings Training Camp, it was announced by the team. Childs, a fourth-round pick out of Arkansas, fell to the turf untouched while diving for a pass. The team had hoped he would take over the split end job while Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension at the start of the season. The Vikings' statement regarding Childs' condition said, "Greg Childs suffered a torn patellar tendon on his right and left knees last night. He is expected to have them surgically repaired within the next few days." Following surgery, he faces a long rehabilitation period that could affect his ability to contribute in 2013 as well. Childs previously had dealt with a patellar tendon tear, during his junior season at Arkansas in 2010.
