Because Favre actually wanted to play for the Vikings last year but there was no way in hell Ted Thompson was going to trade him there.

Yea but giving him a deadline makes it sound like their his only option. I bet he could decide to come back in the middle of the season and the vikes would still take him.

I don't think Werder made the story up, he probably has a source within the Vikings that said there was a "deadline" or a date the team was hoping to get an answer...obviously, Kirwan has a different source, probably closer to the situation who says otherwise. I'm trusting Kirwan over ESPN 100% of the time.

Maybe someone in the Vikes Organization (who doesn't follow Brett Favre) thought they could float a "deadline" out there to put pressure on Favre...lol...
