NFL Radio's Bob Papa, host of The Opening Drive, has reported that former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has turned down the latest plea deal offered to him for the gun felony charges he is facing in the City of New York. It is reported that Burress was offered a 3 month prison term (only to serve two) and 1500 hours of community service as part of the deal.

3 months in jail for basically shooting yourself in your own leg, the system is screwed.

If it had been registered and he had a concealed weapon permit he would be getting shit. He's not facing time for shooting himself. It's for carrying an illegal and loaded gun to nightclub.

He wasn't NO jail time...and that simply won't happen....even his attorneys were telling him to take this....

In all likelihood, the prosecutors will now toughen up and he'll end up with a worse deal now......or going to court and finding himself in Jail for a lot longer....

lol I know why, but in the end that's what it amounted too, still it's been reported that the mayor wants to make an example out of him leading me to believe that no one else would get 3 month jail time.

3 months is better than average.

He does want to make an example out of him. He wants him to get the mandatory minimum or 3 1/2 years which most agree is ridiculous, and most people don't get it including Plax, as seen here, so it's a moot point. Most people get more than 3 months on reduced charges.

Quote:
The most common way to avoid the three-and-half years mandatory minimum sentence is to get the charge lowered to a third-degree possession. But last year, in New York City, nearly 80 percent of the people convicted of a third-degree charge still ended up behind bars, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Of those people, 41 percent ended up serving more than one year in jail; 24 percent ended up serving one year in jail; 6 percent less than one year in jail, and 6 percent had a mixture of jail and probation 24 percent only had probation.
