Ex-Broncos TE Shannon Sharpe Elected To Ring Of Honor

Former Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe has been elected to the team's Ring of Fame, and will be honored before the team's first home game of the 2009 season on Sept. 20. Sharpe, the first tight end to join the Ring of Fame, spent 12 seasons in Denver and helped the Broncos win back-to-back Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998. He ranks behind only Rod Smith in catches (675), receiving yards (8,493) and receiving touchdowns (55) in team history, and held every major receiving record for tight ends league-wide until recently being passed by Tony Gonzalez.

I will be the first to admit that I have not heard every interview with Sharpe since HOF announcements, but I really have not heard him whine too much about it. With that being said, you honestly cannot think that he did not deserve to be a first ballet inductee. He is a sure-fire HOF, and thought he should have got in on the first ballot.

eh, he was bitching pretty hard when he didn't get voted in. he was throwing around all of his stats and blah, blah, blah ................... as far as whether he 'should' have been voted in the first time, I haven't analyzed the group of players that were voted in to determine whether sharpe should have gone before them. i love what sharpe did as a player and a teammate when he played but it's very difficult for anyone to get in on the first vote and he WAS a tight end, probably right ahead of placekicker, long snapper and punter on the list of most important positions on a football field. So just based off of those 2 facts, no one should really be that surprised that he didn't get in the first time and I'm a big fan of what Sharpe did as a player and teammate.
