There’s a storm brewing between the current leadership of the NFL Players Association and the agents who don’t have a strike fund to guard against the disappearance of the paychecks from which they receive up to three percent as their fee. Per a league source, some agents are beginning to prod their clients to ask tough questions about the perception that interim Executive Director Richard Berthelsen and outside counsel Jeffrey Kessler want a former player to become the successor to the late Gene Upshaw as the non-interim Executive Director. The agents think that, while simply having playing experience might have been sufficient when Upshaw got the job more than 20 years ago, the job is much bigger and more challenging now.
