| The San Francisco 49ers defended their pat-down searches of fans before an apparently divided California Supreme Court on Tuesday, saying ticket-buyers know they'll be searched when they walk into Candlestick Park and give up their right to argue that their privacy is being invaded. Two fans who sued the 49ers over pat-downs that began at all National Football League games in 2005 "made a free and voluntary choice" to buy season tickets in 2006 and attend the games while knowing they would be searched, Sonya Winner, a lawyer for the team, told the justices at a one-hour hearing in San Francisco. "They had every opportunity to walk away," Winner said. "If you have voluntary consent, that should be the end of it." Source: San Francisco Chronicle
